CRT socket

Here’s a picture of the details of the CRT socket. As mentioned above, the video output amplifier is on this CRT socket as well. Disconnection of the socket is relatively easy: Remove the tube ground leads, the G2 lead, the video input connector and the multi-pin connector at the bottom of the board. There is a white ground wire that clips to the metal shield at the bottom of the picture. Remove the white G2 wire from the bare CRT socket and the board will pull off of the CRT pins.

The 50-XXXX-XX board number is located under one of the two large brownish power resistors. This CRT board can be the cause of streaking or smearing of the image, that’s a relatively common problem with these sets.

When installing the new CRT socket, it is CRUCIAL and CRITICAL that the white G2 wire gets placed on the correct pin. If the wire is connected to the wrong pin, you will instantly get a spot burn on the phosphor when the set is turned off. The above picture shows that the G2 wire is connected to the upper of the two CRT pins. This is the correct pin for all Marquee sets.

All three CRT sockets are identical, and may be swapped between tubes to see if one is defective. Common faults of the CRT socket board is streaking of images, low light output, excessive brightness or no light output from one tube at all.

There are several versions of the CRT socket, and changes primarily are due to circuit improvements and modifications.
