Under the shield between the R and B tubes are the CPU boards. Actual failure of these boards again is rare, but bad module or IC socket connections can result in erratic operation or convergence memory failure. Before you remove these boards, make sure the AC power to the set has been disconnected for 10 minutes, as the standby power supply is always present on these CPU boards. Removing these boards without unplugging the set can zap these boards.
