October 8, 2001

Not too much to report for this week, as my last email said, I finally got caught up this afternoon on my emails, parts mailouts and projector sales. I have looked at a bunch of sets today, but most need parts, so I do not have too many sets to sell. I will list out upcoming units though and what I expect to come in this week. I will probably not send another list out for 2 weeks.

As always, prices are in US dollars and do not include shipping.

While air shipping and the borders are more or less back to normal, I have found out that air cargo shipments are not allowed to be transferred from plane to plane. For example, if there is a direct flight from Vancouver to Dallas, the shipment will go air all the way. However if there is a plane transfer due to no direct flight to the final destination, the rest of the trip is done by ground. As more people would seem to handle the projector during a transfer, there are more chances for the projector to get dropped or damaged.

I would therefore suggest that most shipments within North America be sent by ground until this changes.

Video projectors

These projectors are video only, and do not have RGB inputs for HDTV or line doublers, etc.

1- Sony 722. An entry level projector that is 500 lumens, convection cooled and is small in size. Analog convergence, 7 tubes, good for an 8' screen or smaller.

$325.00

3- Zenith PRO 851 projectors. Decent tubes, good for another 500 hours or so. On screen menus, 600 lumens (750 if you believe Runco) analog convergence. Convection cooled for silent operation. Very reliable, wireless remote included. 6' to 10' screen size. These came out of bars, and have thus been exposed to smoke. I have cleaned them up, and with a coat of paint they will clean up nicely.

$700.00 each

1- Sony 1044. The top of the line video grade set available. 700 lumens, 7" Sony tubes. on screen menus, semi digital convergence. Small unit, tubes in excellent shape; figure on about 7000 hours life left in it. Video and S-video inputs. Last one; the other 3 I had last week are sold. Check on eBay for a picture of a Sony 10XX projector; they all look the same.

DATA GRADE PROJECTORS

All will accept a video input, and all have RGB inputs for HDTV and higher resolution signals.

1- NEC DP-1200. An older data grade projector with 7" tubes, this unit will scan to 32Khz, making it compatible with line doubler and HDTV, as well as 640 X 480 computer resolution. 475 lumens, wired remote, digital convergence and limited onscreen menus make this a decent entry level data projector. Tubes are in good shape, and the set gives a nice picture. Owner's manual and wired remote included.

4- Electrohome ECP 3000/3100 video projectors. A nice 7" video and data projector, these make a great unit for the budget minded, without sacrificing a lot of the features and performance of higher end models. I have one of these units on eBay right now...55 Khz scan rate, 550 to 600 lumens, tubes in great shape, digital convergence, on screen menus, small unit, modular construction. I have competed the focus modification that plagued these sets. Once the mod is done, it is good for the life of the set. These sets come with two input module slots. I will include in the price either an RGB or a video/S-video card. A second card is available for an extra $100.00. Owner's manual included. Tubes should be good for at least 6000 hours.

$700.00 to $800.00 each

1- Sony 1270. Tubes in good shape, no sign of wear. 8" Sony tubes, 75 Khz scan rate, video, S-video and RGB inputs. No hour meter but based on the tube shape, I suspect less than 3000 hours of on time. Digital convergence with various memories. Very reliable units, they give a great picture. I have a ceiling mount available for $150.00 for it, and remotes are $150.00 as well.

$1400.00

1- Sony 1270. Identical to above, tubes in great shape, the unit is currently in Toronto. The projector does not suit the customer's needs, and he is willing to demo the unit as he currently is still using it. Ontario customers, take advantage of this set and save on shipping!

4- Barco G 800. More of these high hour with recent tube replacements, the tubes have the equivalent of 3000 hours or so on them. These sets are in great shape, and the other 8 I got from the same place flew out the door! 92 Khz scan rate, 8" Sony tubes 825 lumens. digital convergence, glass lenses, modular construction, Video, S-video and RGB inputs, Reliable and quiet. Power supplies have all been modified for long term reliability. Superb picture. I am getting 6 more after these 4, but all are missing parts, so I do not know how many I will get running after these ones are gone.

$1200.00 each

UPCOMING UNITS:

1- NEC XG-110. I have sold the two I had in on last week's list, but am getting in one more. Current unknown shape. (I might end up keeping this one for myself, but twist my rubber arm...:) 110 Khz scan rate, Video, Svideo, and RGB inputs.8" NEC tubes, 1200 lumens, digital and on screen everything, a tweaker's delight. A truly high end projector. C/W remote control. Ceiling bracket $150.00 extra.

3- Barco 1208. I am sending in 3 sets of Barco 1208 tubes in for rebuilding this week, and they should be back within a month. Great sets, similar specs to the NEC XG, but 135 Khz scan rate, 1000 lumens, more digital on screen menus and adjustments, Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Cases in super shape.

$4K USD each with all 3 tubes refurbished

6 NEC 6 PG/PG-6000. I have a bunch of these, and all need G and B tubes (see below pictures). RGB inputs only, but I have 2 Video and S-video input cards that I will sell separately for $250.00 each. Frankly, I would spend that money on a DVDO line doubler to take advantage of what this projector can do. 7 1/2" tubes, 800 lumens, 60 Khz scan rate. HDTV ready. Digital convergence with various memories. One of my favourite sets for great fleshtones.C/W remote and instruction book. The tubes should last 10,000 hours easily. Point convergence cards are being sold by www.avscience.com for $600.00 each. I have one card that I will sell with one of these for $400.00 USD.

$2300 USD each. One of these should be ready by the end of the week. The rest will be ready in about 2-3 weeks. Cases in good shape.

1- 9 PG +. Also need B and G tubes Identical to the 6 PG above, but this one has 94 Khz scan rate, has the video/S-video and the point convergence card installed. Should be ready in about a week or so. C/W instruction book and wireless remote.

$2800.00

Various Electrohome Marquee 8000. I currently have 3 of these. 100 lumens, 110 Khz scan rate, RGB inputs, 8" tubes, digital convergence, on screen menus. Great sets, superb focus and sharpness.

One needs a rebuilt green tube only, the blue and red are excellent $3000.00
two need the B and G replaced $3500.00

Should be ready in 2-3 weeks.

Note: I currently have several sets on hold pending sales from last week's list. Some of these sales may not come through, so I will be relisting these sets if sales fall through.

Note also: I am sending out lots of loaner parts for defective projectors. Unless I have specifically sold you a replacement part outright, PLEASE SEND BACK THE OLD PARTS! I will test them for failures, and in the case of modules, I rebuild them and resell them It is critical that I get old parts back so I can effectively service other customers and keep prices down. If loaner parts 'disappear', my prices will have to go up.

As to the below pictures, they clearly show tube burn. These images are from a 6 PG that was installed about 12-14" too far back from where it should have been mounted. This resulted in a much smaller phosphor surface are being used, and the blue tube is showing significant signs of wear.

The second picture has been taken with the blue tube turned off, and you can see a bit of wear on the green, and the centre of the image is a bit redder than the outside border.

The last picture show just the blue tube, and clearly shows the wear pattern. I could change the blue tube only, and the green would hardly be noticed, but I strive for perfection...:)

Cheers, and thanks for your support!
