Here is another list of used projectors for sale. As always, all prices are in US dollars. If you want off this list, please shoot me back a quick email and I'll take you off right away.

First bit of business- my website. If you haven’t seen it lately, www.curtpalme.com is completely revamped, with lots of new information on it, as well as a slick new look. The FAQ has been updated too, with some pictures and added text. My plan is to have a very service oriented website up over the next few months, so you can identify parts in each make and model, and do some self diagnosis should you have an issue with a set. Since it takes 8 hours or so to compile the pictures and text for a set, it will be a long process before I get every make and model up there, but new stuff is being added weekly. I won’t have manuals to download on the site, at least not yet, as there are other well known sites out there with that, links are in the ‘links’ page.

2) I have a ‘referral’ section that’s currently empty. What I want to do there is list fellow CRT owners from around the globe, ranging from amateur D-I-Y installs to multiple CRT projector owners to pro ISF calibrators that are willing to show newbie CRT owners a good working system, and that might be able to assist others in the set up. If you have only ever owned a Sony 1031 projector, but know it inside and out, and your picture ‘sings’, you might be able to assist a new Sony 10XX owner that is having set up issues. Heck, if you’re really good at what you do, a referral here might give you some ‘play’ money for a long weekend…J

By the same token, if you are a current or new CRT owner and want a pro install or calibration done to get the most out of your projector, hopefully you can find a good CRT calibrator in this referral section as well.

Lastly, if you have no interest in calibrating someone else’s projector, but are willing to open your home to someone that wants to see a CRT system in action, we’ll list you as well.

PROJECTOR STUFF:

Note that all projectors that have wireless remote capability now come with the new style One For All 8 in 1 universal remote control. This replaces the older style 5 in 1 universal remote that I was shipping in the past. Note that the NEC projectors will still come with the original NEC set up remote, mandatory for converging and setting up the unit.

PROJECTORS

1- GE Imager/Panasonic PT-101Y projector. This is a good entry level projector that will take a video or S-signal. 600 lumens from 7” tubes, this is a low hour set. Analog convergence, small and quiet, with only one fan in it. I’ve sold lots of these, this is the last unit that I have. Simple to set up, reliable, a good unit for the kids to play video games on. Analog convergence, the tubes are in good shape.

3- Sony 10XX series sets. I’ve got a few of these popular sets in again. 600 lumens from 7” Sony tubes, the same as used in the Electrohomes below. 32 Khz scan rate on the 1030’s, 36 Khz for the 1031’s. All of the tubes in these sets are in great shape. The cases range from good to near mint. Very reliable, analog convergence that is easy to set up. These sets sing with a line doubler. Very small and quiet operation, I put lots of these into sports bars where they are run 12 hours a day. One 1031 is on ebay here:

2- Ampro 2000- I’ve got two of these sets in stock again. Very similar to the Electrohome ECP below, and about the same age as the ECP 4100, these scan to 80 Khz, have a wired remote, and have digital convergence for an easy set up. I’ve got Ampro 2000 info on my website now as well. Very shallow sets, only 10” tall, so these are great for low ceilings. One of these has the original Sony SD-187 tubes at 600 lumens, the other has the newer and slightly brighter 750 lumen tubes. Both sets of tubes are in really good shape. On eBay here:

I’ve spent a bunch of time working on Ampro modules this past week, and have managed to repair a few Ampro HV power supplies for various makes and models. It’s rare that I have stock, so if you need one, let me know. I’ve also found a repair for these, so if you have a dead one around, there’s a chance that I can repair it. Contact me for more info.

1- Electrohome ECP 3000. This is a good little set, with tubes in great shape. 55 Khz scan rate, dual RGB inputs, on screen menus. Very similar to the ECP 4100 below, but a little older. A low hour set based on the excellent condition of the tubes, I’m guessing maybe 2000 hours of ‘on’ time. Digital convergence, on screen menus, modular construction. 1- Electrohome ECP 4101. These are great little 7” sets. 600 lumens out of 7” Sony tubes.. 80 Khz scan rate let these lock onto past a line quadrupled signal. Digital convergence, on screen menus, modular construction. Stock with two RGB inputs, switchable via remote controls, a video and S-video card is optional. c/w a wireless remote. 4- Barco Data/Graphics 800. I received 10 of these, and a bunch flew out the door right away. I’ve gone through the rest of them now. The actual ‘on’ time of the tubes is a lot lower than even the 3600 hour count, as the tubes are in excellent shape. You’ll get 8500 hours + out of these. 58 Khz scan rate for the Data, 92 Khz for the Graphics makes this set good for well past 1080p or line quadrupling. . 825 lumens out of 8” Sony tubes. With the low hour count, the ES focus tubes are still very sharp, and you can still see scanning lines at line doubling across the room. Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital convergence, very easy to set up, I’ve sold 100’s of these over the years with very few issues. I’ve done all of the standard modifications to these to improve long term reliability. I’ve got two of these 800 sets that are missing the Barco logo plate over top of the lenses. I’ll knock $100.00 off the price of any of the above sets if you can take a set that’s missing this cover plate. You can make one up out of metal, use it as is of course, or they do come up on eBay once in a while as well.

I’ve also got one BG 800 here in good shape, but with light text wear on the blue tube only. I had a similar set listed on ebay recently. This set has higher chassis hours, but somewhat lighter text wear on the blue tube. The R and G are fine. I’ll sell this set as –is due to the blue tube, (I’ve done all of the other mods to it) for $500.00. This one has the cover plate over the lenses.. All other parts and the set are in good shape, and I’ll back this set as I do all others. Great for gaming, or if you have a good blue tube lying around. You don’t actually see the text wear in most scenes, so this set could be used as is for a long time.

Sony 12XX series

I’ve got a bunch of new Sony 12XX sets in. They were sold to me as scrap sets, but most of them turned out to be better than described. The problem with some is that they didn’t come with cases. The electronics and tubes are good, but they are missing some case parts. I’ve discounted these heavily, so if you are going to build a hush box around the set, or mount it in a coffee table, then the case won’t be seen anyways. I’ve listed these with the exact description, and one of the eBay pix shows the typical case condition. All projectors have digital convergence, on screen menus, come with a wireless remote, and I back the sets as I do any others. The performance of all 12XX series sets are quite similar, with the 1252 and 1272’s being the newest models. These have 21 points of convergence as compared to 9 points with all the other models, however I maintain that with a careful set up, you can tweak the older sets to the performance of the new ones. 21 points of convergence is handy if you’re too lazy to do a careful set up…J

2- Sony 1270. Similar in specs and performance to the Barco G 800 above, the Sonys use the same tubes as the 800. The reliability is good on these sets, they are built like tanks. Video, S-video and RGB inputs, digital convergence, on screen menus. This set is in super condition with no visible wear on the tubes. You’ll get 9500 hours+ out of these tubes. 2- Sony 1251. A bit newer than the Sony 1270 above, but with virtually identical specs, I’ve got two of these in good shape. Your choice to buy them with a case in good shape, or with a scratched case. Tubes will last 7000 hours or so, they’re in about the same shape as the 1272’s below.

$850.00 with a good case, $650.00 with a marked case, and missing the top overlay plastic.

3- Sony 1272- similar to the Sony 1270 above, but about 4 years newer. 750 lumen tubes, and 21 point convergence instead of 9 point like the 1270 for better fine tuning of the convergence. If you don’t care about looks, or are building it into a coffee table, this is a good way to go. Cases do come up on eBay every once in a while as well. I guarantee the electronic condition of these sets like I do all other projectors, but no warranty on the cases. I will email pix to those that are interested to see what they are like. Tube condition of these sets is good, and they should all last about about 8000 hours. A bargain at $1000.00 each. I also have one 1272 with a scratched case, missing the top insert, with a bit of blue wear, but very useable as is. You’ll get 6000 hours + out of the tubes. $650.00.

Barco 701/701s/708 projectors. If you’re looking for a bright (1000 lumen) small and quiet projector that is easy to set up, this is it. These are very small units (approx 28” X 24” X 13”), and are currently also being made for Runco under the DTV 947 and similar models. Currently also under the Barco line as the Cine 7 model. These sets started with the Barco 701 projector that used 650 lumen Sony tubes. They then came out with the 701s that bumped the brightness up to 1000 lumens and used Toshiba tubes. Two models of each were released, the Vision that scanned to 36 Khz (good for line doubling and HDTV), and the Data model that scanned to 50Khz (good for up to line tripling). All models have video. S-video, RGB and COMPONENT inputs, digital convergence, on screen menus and are very easy to set up. I’ve got 4 units in stock right now. Three are ready to go, the other one is waiting for parts.

Zenith PRO 900/ Runco DTV 852

I’ve got three of these sets in again, after not having any for a while. The two models are the same, but Runco painted the case black and added an internal line doubler, great for someone wanting an all in one set without the hassles of dealing with the external cables and switchers associated with a line doubler or scaler. Both versions of the sets have 7” tubes with 800 lumens, video, S-video and RGB inputs (the video and S-video inputs are line doubled in the Runco), and a scan rate to 50 Khz, so you can add HDTV via the RGB inputs down the road. I’ve recently seen a Zenith Pro 900 hooked to a DVDO HD scaler, and the picture was stunning on an 84” wide screen. Very quiet. The Runco unit has a near mint case and comes with the original box, remote and ceiling bracket. The Zenith versions are white, are a bit scratched, but can be painted to suit, and the scratches will disappear. All sets have new G and B tubes, the red is original and in great shape. 2- Zenith PRO 900 versions (no line doubler) $1700.00 each

I’ve got a slew of NEC PG projectors listed below. Some are ready to go, some need tubes. I’ve got some PG/PG+ tubes at VDC right now that have smashed safety glass, but are in good shape otherwise, with only a hint of wear on them. Those will be back in 10 days or so. I’m listing the condition of the sets, with a ‘good used tube’ price, along with a G and B new tube price.

NEC PG series projector. A step up from the electrostatic focusing sets listed above, this is an EM focus sets that scan to 60 Khz for the 6 Pg, 90 Khz for the 9 PG. 800 lumens from 7 1/2" tubes. The 6 PG sets are equipped with an RGB input, the 9 Pg’s with a video and S-video jack as well as the RGB input. Many of you know that NEC's are my personal favourite projector for fleshtones. c/w wireless remote. Perfect for use with a computer or a line doubler/ tripler.

2-NEC 9 PG +. The ‘+’ sets added astigmatism control to the set, which gives better side and corner focus over the plain PG series. The picture and specs are otherwise the same.

6- NEC PG Xtra projectors. One slight step down from the NEC XG series and a step up from the PG + series, these sets put out 1000 lumens. A small chassis with RGB inputs (optional video and S-video inputs are also available on the 9 PG Xtra), these sets are best suited for use with a line doubler or tripler. I’ve got about 12 of these sets in stock. All need two tubes installed, and a couple need all three. I’ll probably part out the ones that need three tubes, but that still leaves 8 available sets. You’ll get 10,000 hours + out of sets with new G and B tubes, the green tubes are installed in two of these, with the blues being here within the week. These sets give a very punchy picture with super nice fleshtones.

Note that I have about another 10 NEC PG sets in stock in various condition, but all need tubes, so I’ll retube them as I sell the above ones.

I’ve put together a couple of Ampro 3300 and 3600 sets that are currently on test run. These came in with text wear on more than one tube, but since I’ve retubed so many Barco sets recently, I’ve got some good used tubes with light wear to put into these sets. These 3300’s and 3600’s are as good a performer as any other 8” 1200 lumen EM focus set. 100Khz scan rate, 1200 lumens,, wired remote for digital convergence. Easier to set up than an NEC XG series, the manuals are well written. I’ve now got lots of backup parts for the Ampro sets, and have run each of these for 100 hours to ensure long term reliability. RGB input only on these sets. The cases do have some marks and scratches on them. The 3600 is a bit newer than the 3300, the 3300 has very slightly better tubes than the 3600, but you’ll get 7000 hours + out of each of these sets. A blowout price at $1500.00 each.

I’ve gone through a number of my Barco 808 projectors, and here’s what I have:

As mentioned in my “CRT projector tome”, the basic performance of the BD 808, BD 808s and BG 808 are about the same, as all use 8” MEC tubes. The BG 808s uses non rebuildable Sony tubes, so unless these BG 808s sets come in with very good condition tubes, I scrap the sets. Right now, the Sony tubes for the BG 808s sets are $1300.00 USD each, but rumor has it that VDC will be rebuilding these sometime in 2005. All of these sets are 8” EM focus sets, 1200 lumens, have digital convergence, on screen menus, wireless remotes, and are very easy to set up. I do the power supply modifications, and I’ve had great success shipping these all over the world. 75 Khz scan rate out of the Data models, 110 Khz out of the Graphics ones.

The ‘s’ models come with the IRIS auto convergence camera, along with a 480p compatible component input.

1- Electrohome Marquee 8000. This set is similar to the Barco g 808 above, but with 1000 lumens from 8” EM focusing tubes. Very similar in set up to the Barcos in general, these sets are quiet. Not as long as the Barcos in size, they are about 3” taller than the Barco series. Very modular in construction, and super reliable. This set has very low hour tubes, and they are in great shape. 1- Marquee 8500. In transit to me, this tube has new G and B tubes, and I’m selling it for a customer that bought it about 150 hours ago. Full warranty on the tubes in the set (1 year). The 8500 has the astig controls that the 800 and 8110 do not include, for slightly better corner focus. I do all of the mods required to make the Marquees more versatile and reliable. I’ve sold lots of these in the past with great results.

NEC XG projectors. Once again I have a number of XG projectors in stock, and a couple more to come in shortly. All NEC XG projectors are true 1200 lumen 8” EM focus sets. Digital convergence, on screen menus, video, S-video and RGB inputs are stock, the component option is available on the NEC XG 852 models. 100 point convergence allows for super accurate convergence. The NEC has more control over the picture than other 8” sets, making a full set up a bit daunting, but when it’s complete, you’ll find it’s well worth the effort. Smaller than most competing 8” sets, they’ve been very reliable, and I’ve sold lots. Note to overseas customers on 220 volts. The basic XG’s are 110V only, but I’ve found some hard to find 220V supplies that I’ll install for an extra $100.00. (Sorry, I can’t sell these separately) Here are the details:

1- XG 75. I have gone through this set fully, and it has very light G and B wear on the tubes, the red is in good shape. The performance of the XG 75 is the same as the higher end non LC sets, no matter what the specs say. Digital convergence, on screen menus, video, S-video and RGB inputs. 100 points of convergence per color, very accurate color reproduction. I’ll test run this set this week, but the price will be $2200.00 USD.

1- NEC XG 110. Similar to the above units, these models do not have component input, but scan to 110 Khz. One of these sets belongs to a customer of mine, 1635 hours only on the chassis, good for another 8500 hours. Very light G wear, none on the R and B. Case in minty shape, c/w original manual, wireless remote and road case. I’m selling this one for a local customer that bought it off me a while back, and is moving and does not have the room for it. 1- Electrohome Marquee 9000LC. I have one more of these sets in from the same place that I got the previous ones from. 1200 lumens from 9" EM focus tubes, 110 Khz scan rate, video. S-video and RGB inputs. I’ve done the standard mods to the set, but have also upgraded the video chain to newer revision video input and output boards, so for all intents and purposes, this set is now a 9500LC. 3- Ampro 4600’s. I’ve got one of these on my ceiling right now, and have had it up for about 6 weeks. I need to order a new green tube for mine, it’s got some wear on it. The blue is brand new. The red is original with no wear. These are state of the art 9”
sets, and cost $58K back in 1996-1998. Full 9” tubes, liquid coupled. 110 Khz scan rate. A lot of adjustments on the convergence and picture parameters, this set is on par with the Marquee 9500LC, Barco 1209s, and apparently the Sony G 90. I’ve checked out the other sets, and they are in great shape. Original shipping boxes, manuals, ceiling brackets and remotes with both. Light green wear, the R and B tubes are in great shape. . Very useable as is, there’s no need to retube these, as the 9” tubes wear more slowly than their 8” counterparts.I’ve put 100 hours on each set now, and they are rock solid. Sony 1270 switchers- I’ve got about 5 of these switchers here. 8 inputs, modular construction so that you can add extra input modules at will. I’ll sell the bare switchers at $50.00 each with no input cards. I’ve got rack ears for some at no extra charge.

SIGNAL PROCESSORS

I’ve got stock of some factory reconditioned DVDO line doublers. I’ve got 4 V1’s, 5 V2’s and one PRO version. These are excellent quality little doublers that have been out there for a while now. The V1’s were the first units with one video and two S-video inputs. The V2’s added aspect ratio conversion so that a 4;3 image would fit into a 16:9 screen. The PRO versions added one component input and color and tint controls. These should prove to be less money than buying one from the US for my Canadian customers. In original box with instructions, etc. A short 5’ SVGA to 5 BNC cable is included, which may be extended with BNC to BNC couplers.

Yes, it’s true, the Lumagen HDP units are FINALLY shipping, and Canada has some stock currently, however they sell out very quickly, and I’m finding it very hard to keep them in stock. I am selling these at 5% off the US list price (with the US pricing converted to CDN at the current exchange rate for my Canadian customers). I strongly recommend the $100.00 US upgrade for any Lumagens that have a BNC connector output option (such as the HDP), a BNC connector is a MUCH better connector than the dinky SVGA connectors.
