OK, it’s been a while since I’ve sent
a mailer out featuring new sets and
such.
First off, let me comment on the
website. With the site quickly closing
in on 250,000 visitors (approx 750,000
page loads/month! - Kal), it’s gotten a lot
larger and more popular than I ever
imagined. Thanks to all of the hard work
that Kal has put into the site as I know
nothing personally about setting up a
website. While I haven’t personally
added any articles lately, I have a
couple of NEC related write-ups that are
almost complete. This includes a full
ground up setup procedure for the XG
series of sets (also applicable to the
PG series) that hopefully will eliminate
some of the confusion that the NEC
manual throws into the mix. I will also
update the quickly thrown up ‘NEC XG
white balance procedure’ with added
pictures, as I know there’s a few of you
with replaced system boards that could
use a white balance recalibration. This
is a relatively simple procedure, and
will require an AVIA disc and a
voltmeter. Look for these to be on the
site by the end of June.
Secondly, the website is now selling
'Third Party' items, including a
CRT Setup DVD,
HD144/145 Lens
Adapters,
SDI mods,
Sony DVI/HDMI input cards (only 15
left!), and the
HDfury
DVI/HDMI to RGB adapter.
As the title says, these are third party
items, so when purchasing you will be
paying and dealing with the third party
seller/manufacturer directly. I personally have not tried these
units and know nothing about them. With
me spending upwards of 60-70 hours a
week repairing sets and
troubleshooting/providing tech support
to sets, I simply don’t have the time to
get into the sales and support of
aftermarket items. Please send all
technical questions and inquiries to the
email address that will be clearly
listed whenever a mailout is done and
that are listed on the
third
party web page on my site.
Audio Authority 1365 transcoders:
These are selling very quickly, and AA
is sold out from time to time. My next
shipment of 6 leaves AA in the next few
days, so I’ll email those of you that
have these on order with me as soon as I
see them. I’m still selling them for
less than buying off the AA website.
Digital projectors: I finally dropped
into the Sony Store that’s been around
the corner from me and they have a Ruby
on display. The selling price is a
whopping $12,000 CDN (about $10,500 USD).
The Ruby is installed about 18” off
center, and while it’s got better
convergence than the last Ruby I saw
about a year ago, the color reproduction
on both animated and real life movies
from a Blu Ray player was terrible. The
HD DVD player that I saw on a Barco Data
808s looked significantly better! Long
live CRT!
OK, onto the sets!
Featured sets:
I’ll feature two great 9” sets this
time around. I’ve got a good condition
NEC 10PG set. This is NEC’s only foray
into the 9” market, based on the popular
PG series of sets. (I also have brand
new (not rebuilt) G and B tubes here
that I can install into the set if you
want perfection):

The NEC 10PG is an EM focus
set. 1000 lumens super sharp.
92Khz scanrate. It
is the only 9" LC colour filtered
set that NEC ever made. Based on the
popular PG series of sets, but with the
full 9" tubes. 1080p capable.
Those that own one of these (see my
forum), swear by the picture. This
set gives those nice NEC fleshtones that
I love and with 9” tubes, the tubes will
last forever. A great way to get into a
silky smooth 9” set.

NEC
10 PG: I got a 10PG in on a
trade. 4000 hours, very light G and B
wear (very slight hardly noticeable 16:9
wear). Very useable, and that wear is
hardly visible on an all white field. I
also have brand new (not rebuilt) G and
B tubes here that I can install into the
set if you want perfection. 100 point
convergence board installed. Remote and ceiling bracket included. I’ve
got a road case to ship this in as well. |

State of the
art 9" sets. 9" liquid
coupled tubes. 135Khz and 1200 lumens
with astig adjustments for perfect
corner focus. Scheimpflug adjustments
are stock on these units.
Very easy to set up. Not as long as most projectors, they
are about 3" taller than the Barco
series. Very modular in construction,
and super reliable. Video, S-video and
RGB inputs.
I do all of the mods
(including anamorphic squeeze mod, the power supply/filament mods,
and replace a bunch of parts on the
video boards that commonly fail) required to make
the Marquees more versatile and
reliable.

Marquee
9500LC Ultra: 200 hours on the
tubes, just over 600 total on the
chassis! This set is as new as you can
get to a $35,000 new Ultra, at less than
1/3 the price. The only thing I did was
put new glycol into the tubes as the
original was a bit cloudy. I’ve put some
test hours on the set to ensure
perfection, everything else in the set
is perfect. Case in good shape, GT 17
lenses. |

I’ve got two other 9500s coming in as
well as a couple of 9000LCs that should
be here within the week. I will be
swapping the tubes and hardware over to
later model 8500 sets to make these into
9500LCs. More info to come in the next
couple of weeks. Since I’m scrapping
some of these 9000LC chassis, I will
therefore have the very hard to find
stigmator boards and yokes available to
turn an 8000 projector into an 8500 by
adding the astigmatism adjustment
feature. I’ll be selling two sets of
these 9000 astig sets, including the
astig driver board, the astig output
board and three yokes with the astig
winding for $250 complete. This is a
great way to upgrade an older 8000 set
to get those corners razor sharp for
dirt cheap.
Other sets that have arrived: I recently
bought twenty 8500 Marquee projectors.
I’ll be scrapping a few of these, so
I’ll have every board available
including some HVPS for very attractive
prices. I’m rebuilding most of these
sets as they are in excellent condition.
Bonus 9” set: Barco 1100.

This is a Barco 800
chassis with 9” SD 146A tubes in it.
Very bright, 1200 lumens, and this set
has ‘soft’ startup HV, so this set isn’t
nearly as prone to tube failure as the
older analog Barco 1000 and 1001 sets
were.

Barco
1100: I’ve had this here for
a while waiting for the tube mounting
bracket, and they are here now. The R
and G tubes are mint, the blue has a bit
of even wear, but still very good to
use. c/w the older style TAC lenses on
the set, which can be upgraded to the
all glass lenses if desired. Great
working shape, all mods done. If you
really want a 9’ set for cheap, this is
it! |

$700.00 |
I’ve also got a good selection of NEC
XG-LC sets in stock, the 110LCs. They
are in good working shape, but the sets
need blue and green tubes. I’ll retube
as I get inquiries into these sets,
they’ll run $3300.00 USD with new G and
B tubes. These are excellent top of the
line 8” sets, lots of people are running
these at 1080p.
The rest of the website has been
updated as to sets in stock. I haven’t
been buying many sets lately as there
are lots here, well over 150 in stock at
all times.
Other items
Audio Authority 1365 transcoders in
stock. I’ve got good stock again of the
1365 transcoders, that also act as a
scaler, up to 1024p. Take any component
signal up to 720p, convert it to RGBHV
and scale it at the same time. My price:
$275.00, that’s $24.00 less than from
Audio Authority!
As some of you know, I have repaired
and reconditioned a number of reel to
reel tape decks in the past. I know the
mechanics of them inside and out and
have the alignment tapes and test
equipment to work on them. Recently the
bug hit again, and I dug out a bunch of
the older decks that I've had here (and
bought more as well).
Vintage Audio
I’ve been working on some older Sony
and Akai reel to reels, and will be
listing more of these shortly on ebay.
I’ve got some great 7” and 10 ½” sets in
stock in reconditioned shape. I’ve also
got too many vintage speakers in stock.
I’m deciding what to sell. I love my
Martin Logans, but I finally found some
ElectroVoice Interface D.s... :)
A PLEA FOR HELP!
Now that this seems to be the world’s
largest site dedicated to CRT
projectors, I’m getting DAILY emails
from newbies wanting assistance with
setting up their projectors. Those of
you that are now on their second or
third upgrades and want to possibly make
some extra money assisting others that
have just purchased their first CRT,
PLEASE see consider adding your contact
info to our referral pages (see
here).
The more people that can assist in
cities outside of the Vancouver area the
better. Many newcomers to the CRT
projector world simply need some
guidance on basic setup. Share your

Parts n' stuff
I am adding parts to my stock daily.
I seem to be one of the only places left
that can repair virtually any CRT module
down to a component level. With some
other casual resellers now out of the
business, rest assured I'll support ANY
CRT projector out there, whether
purchased from me or not. I’ve recently
parted out a bunch of NEC XG sets, so
I’ve got a great selection of XG modules
in stock. I’ve also parted out a bunch
of Ampros and have a good set of tested
LVPS and HVPS in stock that are stable
and run cool.
Email me for info.
I’ve managed to score some NOS (new
old stock) SD 187 tubes that will be
here tomorrow. I’m using two sets
myself, but that leaves 4 blue and 4
greens that are available for sale.
$125.00 USD each. A great way to bring
any ECP. Ampro 2000, 2600, or Barco 400,
500, 600 700 or 701 back to new
condition without the price of buying
(or shipping) a new set. I will test all
of these tubes prior to shipping to
ensure as-new emission and focusing
ability.
Parts needed
(2) Ampro 2000 style remotes. I've
got a need for two good working old
style Ampro remotes. I've got lots of
sets but few remotes.
As many 8” tubes as I can get. I’ve
got a lot of NEC PG, PG Xtra, XG, Barco
808 and Marquee sets that need green and
blue tubes. I’ll pay reasonable prices
for any 8+ condition blue and green
tubes to finish off these 20+ sets that
I have here.
(4) Sony 07MP or 07MSP tubes. I’d
like to sell off the Sony 12XX units
that I have here, but 4 have worn blue
tubes. Again, I’ll pay reasonable going
rates for good blue tubes for these.
(2) each of blue and green P16 tubes
as used in the Barco 708 sets. Again,
I’ve got two great sets here, but with
worn tubes, they can’t be sold.
(2) Sony 1292 tubes. I am looking for
a blue and a green. I have two sets here
that are in good shape, and I can
currently make one out of the two here,
but I still need one of each.. :)
Thanks for your support!
