Here finally is a large used projector list.
As always, all prices are in US dollars. If you want off this projector
list, just shoot me an email and I'll take you off right away.
For those of you new to this list, please check out the best CRT/home
theater website on the 'net:
www.avsforum.com
There's lots of information there, more than I could ever give out.
You'll find me in the CRT section almost daily.
Note that with all Sony 12XX series and Barco projectors I now include a
free wireless remote. This is an aftermarket wireless remote programmed
with the most common codes into them. They will also learn the codes for
most of your video and stereo equipment.
People have mailed me recently and asked about the prices on my mailouts
vs the comparatively lower prices from most other vendors on eBay.
So just FYI, here's how I determine projector prices, and the perceived
value that I can offer over other sellers.
1) I will not sell a projector that I cannot support after the sale.
This includes NEC GP-3000's, the original Electrohome ECP 2000, Barco
Data (1984 vintage), etc. These sets either have chronic problems or
have been obsolete for some time. I do stock some parts for these if you
have one...
2) Each projector that I look at gets a 'triage' treatment as it were. I
inspect each set for physical damage, tube wear, etc. If the set looks
to be in good condition, I will proceed to turn it on and analyze the
picture condition. I will always do common circuit modifications to the
projectors prior to turning them on. For example, Electrohome ECP models
have flaky focus resistors, and if the original resistor is in place, I
exchange it right away for a heavier duty one. Barcos get all of the
power supply solder joints redone, etc. etc. I will also replace or
check commonly failing parts for their condition.
Lastly, each set is test run for 20 or more hours to ensure long term
reliability.
3) So the bottom line is yes, you can buy a projector on line from
someone that is dumping one on eBay, but I have found the chances of
getting a working projector that is useable is about 20%. 40% of eBay
units need work, 40% are write-offs. Pay a little more from a qualified
tech and chances are you'll get years of use out of the unit, with parts
backup and tech support should there be a problem.
Onto the projectors:
1- Sony 1251. 8" tubes, 750 lumens, 61.5 Khz scan rate. Video, S-video
and RGB inputs. Digital convergence, on screen menus. Very nice reliable
projectors; these are very popular. Great for HDTV, video, satellite and
DVD. Only 2172 hours on the chassis.
$1400.00
1- GE 901/ NEC 9 PG. This is an NEC 9 PG in a charcoal gray case made
for GE. 800 lumens, 7 1/2" EM focus tubes, 92 Khz scan rate. Digital
convergence with the optional point convergence board installed for fine
tuning, 4700 chassis hours, 3500 tube hours but absolutely no wear on
the tubes, so the set is good for at least 8000 hours. RGB inputs only
for use with a line doubler, tripler, quad, HDTV box etc. I use a 9 PG
personally as I love the fleshtones and focus of these sets. Note quite
as 'punchy' as the XG series, but still an excellent 'beyond starter'
CRT projector.
$1800.00
1- NEC 9 PG as above with Video and S-video card installed, and very
slight wear on the blue tube. Good for at least 5000 hours. I can change
the blue tube for $600.00 more.
$1400.00
1- NEC 9 PG as above with no point convergence board, excellent tubes
and RGB input.
$1500.00
1- Barco Data 808. Same specs as the Barco Graphics 808 below, but this
one only scans to 75 Khz. Still fully capable of line doubling,
tripling, quad, all formats of HDTV, etc. This chassis bas 4171 hours of
use on it, and the B and G tubes have a bit of wear (the red is
flawless), but should still be good for about 5000 hours of use. This
set uses the MEC rebuildable tubes. Use as is for now, and retube down
the road. the focus is still sharp in the wear area, and the white
balance is reasonable.
$2000.00
$3000.00 with rebuilt B and G tubes
1- Barco Graphics 808. One of my favorite Barco models with 1200 lumens,
8" EM tubes, 110 Khz scan rate for HDTV compatibility and far beyond,
2000 X 2000 resolution, video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital
convergence, on screen menus, very easy to set up. Very reliable and
also one of the more quiet projectors in the high end market.
This one has high chassis hours, but the chassis is in flawless shape.
The tubes have been recently replaced with original Barco tubes (not
rebuilds) and the picture is excellent. The tubes will give you at least
7000 hours of life more out of them. The case is in great shape.
$3000.00.
1- Barco G 808. This one has lower hours on it, and I have replaced the
green tube due to text burn. Same specs to the 808 above.
$3500.00
1`- Barco G 808. This set is the lowest hour set of all, and uses 7"
liquid coupled tubes that have a very low 237 hours on it, as the set
was retubed in 2001. Chassis time is 4547 total, and the tubes were
replaced at 4520. I believe these tubes were an option for this Barco,
as everything is factory installed. As these 7" tubes have a bit lower
light output (1000 lumens?), I would run this projector on a 92" wide or
smaller screen.
$3000.00.
1- NEC XG 852. Only 3800 hours on the chassis with new B and G tubes due
to text burn. This is the latest revision of XG projector with the dual
purpose RGB and component input card as well as video and S-video
inputs. 1200 lumens, 85 Khz scan rate make this projector compatible
with almost anything you can feed into it. Superb focus from 8" EM focus
tubes. On screen menus, a very detailed set up procedure makes the XG
series one of my favorite units. Incredible fleshtones and color. Case
in excellent shape!
$4000.00
1-Electrohome Marquee 8500. 1200 lumens, 135 Khz scan rate, in the
league of the Barco 1208, 808, NEC XG, etc. 8" EM focus tubes, new B and
G, original red in great shape. Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital
convergence, on screen menus. Great reliable projectors. You should get
a full 10,000 hours out of the tubes in this set.
$3800.00
1- Barco 1208/2. A later model Oct 1995 model with the improved dynamic
focusing circuit that the '/2' designates, this projector arrived with
all three tubes being physically smashed. Someone actually took the time
to remove the lenses, smash the tubes, and then box the lenses
separately and place them with the projector. Not to fear, I have
installed three new tubes into the unit, and lo and behold, there was
nothing else wrong with the unit! 8700 hours total run time, 1200
lumens, 8" EM focus tubes, about 20 hours test time on these new tubes
only. 135 Khz scan rate, Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Ready for
anything! A very quiet model compared to many other makes and models if
that's a concern.
Note: I have one more BG 1208 from the same lot with the same deal of
smashed tubes with 2 new tubes and one good used one coming up shortly.
$4200.00- 3 new tubes
$3800.00- 2 new tubes, 1 used one.
1- NEC GP-5000. A true 9" projector complete with mounting bracket and
wireless remote, the set has digital convergence, limited on screen
menus, Video, S-video and RGB inputs and scans to 75 Khz, making it
ready for HDTV, line doublers, triplers, quads, etc. 650 lumens mean the
tubes are not driven very hard on this set, and you should get a good
8000 hours of life out of these tubes.
$1500.00
1- Barco 1200. A true 9" CRT projector featuring 1200 lumens, and 135
Khz scan rate with Liquid Coupled tubes, this set is in great working
shape. Video, S-video and RGB inputs, digital convergence, on screen
menus, etc. The set has slight 4:3 wear on the blue tube that can easily
be worked with. I am selling this set for less than normal, with the
understanding that the blue tube needs to be changed for a perfect
picture. I will install a rebuilt blue tube for $1000.00 extra. The
green and red tubes should last 10,000 hours, the blue about 5000.
$3000.00
$4000.00 with rebuilt blue tube.

Barco G 801
Barco G 800

Barco 808
Miscellaneous Stuff:
I somehow am overstocked on NEC 6/9PG green tubes. I have three in
stock, I only need one. These are new in the box from NEC, with a 1 year
warranty on them.
$550.00 each
1- Ramsa/Panasonic 300 watt per channel pro power amplifier with clip
lights, rack mounting kit and banana output posts. Great for bands,
DJ's, subwoofers or eviction parties!
$300.00
1- Akai GX-220 reel to reel 7",1 7/8, 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 IPS, 4 track. Auto
reverse. I have gone through this machine, and mechanically it is in
great shape. (I started on eBay repairing reel to reels before the
projector bug hit me). Playback on the machine is flawless, making it
great for transferring your old tapes to cassette or CD. The recording
works fine, but the high frequency is not as good as I would like it to
be. It's flat to about 10Khz or so. I attribute this to the age of the
unit as the unit uses glass heads which do not wear out.
$100.00.
5- A/T 300 series wireless mics. We normally sell these for $200.00 USD,
we have a few demo and trade in units that work flawlessly, and we just
want to get rid of them. VHF, these have a range of about 300' under
ideal conditions, about 100' indoors or in a gym. Great for a church,
band or karaoke. Handheld and guitar cord versions available. Headset or
lavaliere mics are available at cost to use with the guitar cord model.
Various frequencies.
$75.00 each
That's it for now! Thanks for your support!
