January 27, 2002

Well, it has been a busy last couple of weeks here in the (truly) Great White North! Vancouver is under siege currently by the weather, as it has snowed about a foot in the last 24 hours. For those of you not familiar with Vancouver weather, it is very mild, and for snow to stick in Vancouver is somewhat rare. People simply do not know how to drive in snow around here, so traffic has been a mess.. ;)

I have many new projectors listed today, as well as some accessories.

A note: From now on I will be available on a very limited basis every other weekend and Wednesdays as I finally get to see my son regularly thanks to a 16 month visitation battle that has dragged on and on but (I hope) is coming to a close. Feel free to call or email, but if you do not get a response that Wednesday or that weekend, I'm probably building Lego.. :)

As always, all prices are in US dollars. If you want off this email list, just give me shout, and I'll take you off right away. I expect you to get at least 5000 hours out of the sets listed below unless the projector has been retubed, in which case the tubes should be good for the full 10,000 hours. Virtually every set comes with a full set up or instruction manual.

I have switched to truck shipping exclusively within North America, as I have had nothing but grief trying to collect insurance claims from airlines. www.freightquote.com is who I use to ship, and they give the give the option of third party insurance for $40.00, to the tune of $5000.00. I have not had to use the insurance, but apparently making a claim is much faster and easier than trying to deal with the actual trucking company.

Onto the list:

VIDEO/DATA PROJECTORS

NEC DP-1200. An older video and data projector, this set dates from 1989-1990 and uses 7" tubes. 475 lumens, this set is best suited for an 8' screen. Video and RGB inputs with digital convergence, I am including the hard to find and mandatory wired remote with this set. Very reliable sets, they are relatively small and project a similar picture as a Sony 10XX series. 32 Khz scan rate, makes this projector compatible with a line doubler. The case needs a good cleaning and painting, but the pressboard sides and top come off easily and take paint very well.

Note that I have one more of these in stock, but have not tested it yet. It's from the same place, so I will assume it is in the same condition.

$550.00

Sony 1270. One of these left at this time, but more on the way. An excellent workhorse. 8" Sony tubes, 75 Khz scan rate, 650 lumens, digital convergence, case in good shape, Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Very reliable units. A bit of wear on the blue tube, but still a completely useable picture. Good for at least 5000 hours. No hour meter on this one, but I am estimating about 4000 hours use on this set.

Note that I have one more of these 'in the works' coming up shortly.

$1000.00

1- Barco Data 800. Similar in performance to the Sony 1270 above, the Barco Data 800 uses the same Sony tubes as the 1270. 58 Khz scan rate, 825 lumens, video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital convergence, on screen menus, very simple to install and set up.. Full modular construction makes servicing via email or telephone very easy. Great for use with a line doubler or tripler or an HTPC. This projector has been retubed at some time, and I estimate the tubes have no more than about 3000 hours on them.

$1200.00

1- NEC 6 PG. New blue and green tubes. A really nice 7 1/2" tube projector with 800 lumens light output, no wear at all on the tubes. Digital convergence, on screen menus. Relatively small in size, and this set uses EM focus for better focusing ability than the Sony 1270 and Barco 800 above. RGB inputs only, you'll need a line doubler, HTPC or HDTV decoder to hook to this set. 60 Khz scan rate. Case in really nice shape; I even have the original NEC box with this one! Wireless set up remote included.

$2300.00

1- NEC 6 PG Plus. Identical to the above, but only the blue tube has been replaced; the red and green are perfect. 800 lumens, all other specs the same as the 6 PG above, but this one has the video and S-video input card installed as well as the RGB inputs. Same menus, case style as the 6 PG, this one also comes with the manual and the remote. The case is scuffed a bit and will need a paint job.

$2300.00

2- Ampro 4000. I received a bunch of Ampro projectors in about 2 weeks ago, with more to come in. The 4000 dates from about 1992, with 90 Khz scan rate, 1000 lumens, 9" tubes, and video, RGB and S-video inputs. A stunning picture, this one has high hours on it, but not a mark on the tubes. Either it was in standby mode or the tubes have been replaced. At any rate, I'd expect you to get about 8000 hours out of this set.

Now here's the deal with these Ampros. As many of you know, Ampro went out of business sometime in 1998-1999. Therefore I cannot support these projectors as well as I can other makes and models. I go through the Ampros just like any other projector and parts are available out there, but I do not get a lot of these in. I therefore sell them for less than I would an equivalent Sony, Barco, NEC or Electrohome.

In this case, I have a second working Ampro 4000, but with a shattered blue tube. The rest of the set works fine, and I would prefer to sell both together so that the buyer has a second completely redundant parts projector.

The second thing about these Ampros is that they require an Ampro remote to set up and operate the set. I happen to have two only of each type of remote required for these sets, but need to hang onto one of each of them for servicing purposes. The nice thing is that you can use a computer program called HyperTerminal that is a part of Windows to fully control and set up these sets as well. I therefore propose to sell the remotes along with the projectors, but will buy them back off you for $400.00 after you have set up the projector and then use the HyperTerminal program to control the set. I will be trying out the HyperTerminal program this week and will report back in two weeks as to how I make out. Many of you are much more computer savvy than I am, so tying a serial port to the Ampro will be easy for those of you that are computer literate.

I have the full set up and service manual for the 4000 that I will include with the projector.

Price for both projectors plus wired remote: $2800.00

1- Ampro 4200. A later version of the 4000 with changed circuitry and EM focus tubes for better focusing An unbelievable 834 chassis hours and only 366 CRT hours. 1000 lumens, 90 Khz scan rate, a great picture out of this set. The 4000 manual I have will cover the set up and alignment of this unit.

$2500.00

2- Ampro 4600. The pinnacle of the Ampro line, I have two of these sets as well. About 2700 hours on the great condition one, about 4000 CRT hours on the second one which has text burn on the green tube only. The newer style Ampro remote included. Video, S-video and RGB inputs, EM focus, 9" tubes, an incredible picture. Note that VDC can apparently rebuild the tube for the worn one for about $700.00 per tube, but again, I would buy the two projectors for 100% redundancy. The 4000 manual is very close for setting up this projector; only the remote layout changes somewhat but is easy to follow. These sets sold for $27,000.00 each in 1998.

$5500.00 for both projectors and the remote.

2 NEC XG 75's A fellow CRT enthusiast has two of these fine NEC XG machines for sale. Most of you have heard me rant and rave about these machines. The basic XG chassis are the same whether it's an XG 75 or an XG 135, so the picture is the same. The nice thing about Drew's machines is that the chassis are a very low 1020 hours, and have new green tubes installed due to text burn developing on the old ones. So these sets are in perfect shape. Drew knows how to install tubes, so you can be assured these are in great condition overall. Wireless remotes included, and the manual for these can be found at www.nectech.com. Video, S-video and RGB inputs, digital convergence, point convergence, etc, etc. 8" tubes, 75 Khz scan rate, 1200 lumens.

$3600.00 each Email Drew directly at dpackard@premier1.net. These projectors are in Seattle, Wa.

UPCOMING:

As usual, I have many projectors 'in the works' and here is what I have coming up:

1- Sony 1041- 7" tubes, analog convergence, tubes in great shape, color corrected lenses. Waiting for a small part in the power supply. Should be around $550.00.

3- NEC 9 PG Extras. All three need B and G tubes. These are two steps above the 6 PG Plus. The 9 PG Extra has all of the features of the 6 PG series, same case styling, plus: 94 Khz scan rate, Video and S-video inputs as well as RGB inputs. Point convergence for fine tuning the convergence areas, higher light output tubes (1000 lumens?). I will be ordering the tubes for these tomorrow and they should be here within 2 weeks, and should be on the next list. Figure on $3K each with remotes.

2- Sony 1292's. I have two last Sony 1292's coming in with unknown hours on them. From the same place the last ones came from, so they should be in good shape. $3.5K to $4K depending on the tubes.

BArco 808, 1208. I have several more of each coming in. Some will need to be retubed, some will be fine as is.
$3K to $4500.00 depending on the model, hour count and tube condition. Should be here within 2 weeks.

More Ampros. I bought these sight unseen, so I don't even know the model numbers right now. They sounded like 8" or 9"...

1- NEC XG 135. This is the big brother to the two XG 75's listed above. Identical chassis, but this one scans to 135 Khz. Note to the two people waiting for their XG's: Yours are being prepared this week, this is a third unit that has not been spoken for. It needs new blue and green tubes that I am waiting for. $4500.00 when it's done.

1-Barco 600. This one need three tubes that I have in stock, and an RCVDS switcher that needs repair. A good 7" analog convergence projector that scan to 64 Khz and has 600 lumens light output.
$650.00 when it's ready.

Lots more projectors en route to me as well that I cannot remember at this time.. :)

ACCESSORIES AND MISC STUFF:

1- Draper 8' motorized electric Targa 4:3 screen. I had this listed a couple of weeks ago, and sold it almost immediately into the Chicago area. Turns out the screen will not fit the person's application, so I am trying to sell it again. $450.00 in an original Draper shipping box. The screen is still in Chicago.

1- Peavey CS-800 power amplifier./ 450 watts RMS per channel, this is a pro audio rack mount amplifier for PA use or great for augmenting any home system (or for just plain annoying your neighbors!) Came out of a non-smoking bar, and is in great shape

$350.00

2- Panasonic PT-101Y CRT projectors. These are parts units only. Neither work properly. One has good tubes, the other is weak. One is missing lenses Both have HV section problems. One I have traced down to a shorted and discontinued transistor that I cannot be bothered to chase down, the other picture pulses. Good for parts to keep an existing unit alive. Both have new HV transformers that I bought before I realized they had other problems.

$150.00 for the pair.

2- Philips 53" rear projectors. These are in decent shape. They came out of a bar and since changing the tube cooling fluid, the pictures have turned out nicely. Tubes in decent shape, video and RF inputs. The strange thing bout these is that they have no sound system or speakers within the unit, so you'll have to use them with an external audio system. C/W wireless remotes. $600.00 USD each. Pickup only here in Vancouver, I cannot risk these getting damaged in shipping.

2- Altec 416-8 woofers. One has been reconed, the other needs reconing. Came out an ice arena. Nice vintage 150 watt 15" Altec speakers great for a sub cabinet. I can have the one reconed here by an authorized Altec reconing centre if you want.

$125.00/pair as is, $125.00 to recone the one.

8 Sony VPH 722S switchers. How I got 8 of these, I'll never know. These allow the Sony 10XX series projectors and the VPH 722 to have multiple video inputs, and brings the brightness, contrast , etc controls down to the user's level. I do have about 3 of the multipin cables required for these as well, ranging from 10' to 30'.

$20.00 each for the raw switcher, $40.00 each for the cables.

Electrohome Marquee 8000 RGB output modules. I have about 100 of these. These are the CRT cards for teh Marquee 8000 projector that have the high frequency transistors on them that are now discontinued. These are factory rejects and have had some parts stripped off them, but the transistors are there. If you have a Marquee, you need some of these!

$10.00 each

40 lbs assorted Barco parts. I'm getting rid of some of my older Barco parts. These are mainly from Barco Data projectors, and I have some Zenith modules and boards from a Mitsubishi rear projector thrown in as well. Had them sold on eBay but the high bidder shafted me. Good for parts or experimentation. Many of the transistors etc will work on the newer Barco projectors.

$40.00.

LOOKING FOR PARTS:

Now I am looking for some assorted parts:

1- Barco 7621085 H deflection module off a Barco 1208.
1- Barco H shift module. (I don't have the part number)
1- rear cover for an NEC PG series. This is the plastic part that the top case hinges bolt to that surrounds the rear buttons. I got a projector in that smashed only this part in shipping. The rest of the projector is fine...

Thanks as usual for your support!
