Well, it's been 3 months since I've updated this list, and a lot is going on in the world of CRT (and digital). Please see my CES 2006 Summary for some information and pictures of the CES show in Las Vegas. While there are a number of good looking digital projectors now, I still can't get over the fact that these small devices are 100% disposable. I have recently chatted with a number of repair depots that service digital sets and they readily admit that very few projectors that fail out of warranty are actually repaired. This is a bit discomforting to know when you've spent your hard earned money on a new projector. To add to that, two of the three LCD projectors that I've sold into sports bars in the last 2 years have already failed. One was simply a bulb burnout, but Hitachi had a 3 week backorder on bulbs, bad news when Superbowl was 2 weeks away. The other had a power supply failure, most likely due to a lack of filter cleaning on the sports bar's part. But you wonder why I stick to selling CRT's.

From a picture point of view, CES had a lot of nice displays, but a lot also showed flaws when you looked closely. As my CES 2006 coverage says, I cannot personally watch single chip DLP sets, I get headaches. That affects maybe 20% of people that have seen DLP's.

With regards to CRT, I've made many recent changes to the website, and have expanded the tech tips section greatly, with more to come. I am getting many repairs in every week, as even manufacturers like Sony are no longer repairing circuit boards down to a component level. Rest assured that I will NEVER write a board off unless it REALLY cannot be repaired.

I've also stocked up on many more CRT parts that are hard to get. I now order components for circuit boards in bulk each time I find a new part failure, and I've stocked up on modules for many makes and models, including the Zenith PRO 900x that Zenith has now discontinued all parts for. I've got 5 complete working sets in stock, and have 10 more coming in. I will be scrapping the worst of these sets to ensure good parts availability for years to come.

Lately high end 9" sets have become more readily available. I've got some nice 9" sets in stock now, just see the list below. Of course you can get a great picture out of lower end 7 and 8" sets as well.

Also, with regards to the below sets, I now have a good selection of scratch and dent case covers of all sorts. I am willing to cut deals if the case condition isn't important to you, so you can save some dollars. I am also listing some D-I-Y sets for those of you that can do tube replacement yourself. This will save some of you money, while still being able to buy a set that has been fully checked over with all mods done that I normally do.

I have about 40 more sets in stock that are not listed below that are works in progress. See the end of the list for upcoming sets.

Onto the list!

CRT Projectors

Sony 10xx series

More Information

The Sony 10XX series are great little entry level sets. They feature 7" Sony tubes that are very reliable, and offer 600 or 750 lumens depending on whether you're getting the early or late version tubes. Analog convergence, very quiet operation and a small physical size make for a great pub unit for gaming for the kids or as an entry level set to see what the hype is all about with CRT projectors. In general, these sets are very reliable and are easy to set up. The Sony 1031 projectors can accept line doublers and 1080i HDTV signals, the rest have video and some have S-video input jacks depending on the model. The 1001 model is somewhat unique in that it is a late model (1996)10XX series with a wireless remote control. On screen menus and the brighter tubes make for a bit sharper picture than the other 10XX series.

I've got sets with near mint cases and some with cracks. Again, I've got enough tubes and parts so that I can more or less build you a set to suit based on your needs and budget. If you're building the set into a coffee table, then a cracked case isn't really an issue. If it's a set for the kids Xbox or Nintendo, then a bit of tube wear won't matter.

Zenith PRO 851 / Runco 750 HT

More Information

The Zenith PRO 851 (and other similar chassis) are what I consider to be the most popular CRT projector out there. It was cheap, super reliable, and it's convection cooling made it perfect for heavy smoking sports bar environments. You can have as much dust or dirt floating around in the ear (read NICOTINE!), and the sets will continue to function. The Pro 851 is a video only unit with one composite video input. 750 lumens from 7" tubes, modular construction, on screen menus, analog convergence. I've sold about 300 of these since 1985, and worked on 100's of others.

Ampro 2000

More Information

Very similar to the Electrohome ECP, and about the same age as the ECP 4100, these scan to 80 Khz, have a wired remote, and have digital convergence for an easy set up. Very shallow sets, only 10" tall, so these are great for low ceilings.

Electrohome ECP Series

More Information

THE ECP Series of sets are very popular, I've sold lots of them. The 3000 series scans to 55 Khz, the 4000 series to 80 Khz. 600 lumens from 7" Sony tubes. Modular, quiet, easy to set up. Dual RGB input modules come stock with these sets, I've got video and S-video boards as an option. Wireless remotes included.

Note: I've got ACON cameras available for the ECP series for $150.00 USD per camera and PC board. I've got about 6 tested units in stock. I've also got lots of RGB input boards and virtually every other part in stock for these. A bonus to move these sets above: I'll throw in a FREE ACON camera and PC board set for these two sets only!

I've got 3 more ECP's that I'm working on. I'll update this list within 2 weeks.

ECP-3000: This is a good little set, with tubes in great shape. A low hour set based on the excellent condition of the tubes, I'm guessing maybe 2000 hours of 'on' time.

ECP-4100: A slightly later model set in good shape. New style focusing board, tubes in good shape, low hours on the tubes 1 $700.00

Vidikron VPF 40

More Information

Other than the fancy Vidikron case, these are equivalent to the Electrohome ECP 3500: 55 Khz scan rate, Video and RGB inputs, Digital convergence, on screen menus.

Price (USD)

Vidikron VPF 40: It has a hint of 16:9 wear on the blue tube only which will not be seen in widescreen mode. The case is cracked, but it isn't too bad. For a games room it can be painted and most of the marks will disappear. A great picture, it came out of a home theater.

1 $600.00

Barco Vision / Barco Data

More Information

These are older 7" ES focusing sets with analog convergence. I'll sell these for parts, and will post the actual condition once I run through them. I've had lots of inquiries lately from people trying to resurrect these, now I've got stock of complete units again.  I will sell these for parts and will tear them
down at no additional charge. Let me know what you need, I'll assist.

Sony 12XX series

More Information

All projectors have digital convergence, on screen menus, come with a wireless remote, and I back the sets as I do any others. The performance of all 12XX series sets are quite similar, with the 1252 and 1272's being the newest models. These have 21 points of convergence as compared to 9 points with all the other models, however I maintain that with a careful set up, you can tweak the older sets to the performance of the new ones. 21 points of convergence is handy if you're too lazy to do a careful set up? :)

I have a whole bunch of these sets in stock that just came in. Please check back in a week after I test them all.

Sony 1272: The latest in the 127X line. 92 Khz scan rate, 21 point convergence control. Tubes in excellent shape, figure on 8500 hours + life. Only 1500 hours on the original chassis. Original remote included. 1 $1000.00

Barco 70x series

More Information

The 70X series are great little machines, and is one of the smallest case sizes out there for a data grade set. Video, S-video and RGB inputs. Digital convergence, near silent operation, on screen menus, very easy to set upp

The Data 701 scans to 50 Khz, making it good to past line tripling and 750 lumens from Sony 7" tubes.  The Data 701s has the same specs but with 1000 lumen Toshiba tubes and an added component input.

The 708 is the latest version in the 70X series with some upgrades to the chassis. It's also about 2 years newer than the 701s.

More Information

These are great little data grade projectors. 800 lumens out of 7" Zenith tubes. Video, S-video and RGB inputs. 50 Khz scan rate. Digital convergence, on screen menus, a well written manual to help set the unit up. Very quiet and compact. Both sets have brand new Zenith G and B tubes, the reds have no wear.

Zenith PRO 900x: The Zenith are white and black, are a bit scratched, but can be painted to suit, and the scratches will disappear. Some sets have new G and B tubes, the red is original and in great shape. I've got one of these with good original tubes, but with a tiny spot burn in the lower portion of the 4:3 image. This spot isn't visible when using a 16:9 image and the set has been programmed to be turned on automatically when power is applied. I'll sell this one cheaply at $900.00. Full remote included.

NEC PG series

More Information

A step up from the electrostatic focusing sets listed above, this is an EM focus sets that scan to 60 Khz for the 6 Pg, 90 Khz for the 9 PG. 800 lumens from 7 1/2" tubes. The 6 PG sets are equipped with an RGB input, the 9 PG's with a video and S-video jack as well as the RGB input. Many of you know that NEC's are my personal favourite projector for fleshtones. c/w wireless remote. Perfect for use with a computer or a line doubler/ tripler.

The 'PG+' sets added astigmatism control to the set, which gives better side and corner focus over the plain PG series. The picture and specs are otherwise the same.

The 'PG Xtra' sets are one slight step down from the NEC XG series and a step up from the PG + series, these sets put out 1000 lumens. If you're looking for a top performer in a relatively small package, this is the projector to get. Greatly underrated and often overlooked in my opinion..:) These sets give a very punchy picture with super nice fleshtones.

I've got a slew of NEC PG projectors listed below. Some are ready to go, some need tubes. I've got some PG/PG+ tubes at VDC right now that have smashed safety glass, but are in good shape otherwise, with only a hint of wear on them. Those will be back in 10 days or so. I'm listing the condition of the sets, with a 'good used tube' price, along with a G and B new tube price. A couple of these are Runco projectors and are white.

Note that I have about another 10 NEC PG sets in stock in various condition, but all need tubes, so I'll retube them as I sell the above ones. I will have a couple of PG Xtras that I'll be selling with good used tubes at discounted pricing. Contact me for more details. . I also have one mint condition looking Runco 980 Ultra with a black case and processor. I'll be selling it as a package, please check back in about a week for an update once I test it out.

Barco 808 series

More Information

As mentioned in my "CRT Primer", the basic performance of the BD 808, BD 808s and BG 808 are about the same, as all use 8" MEC tubes. The BG 808s uses non rebuildable Sony tubes, so unless these BG 808s sets come in with very good condition tubes, I scrap the sets. Right now, the Sony tubes for the BG 808s sets are $1300.00 USD each, but I'm working on a modification for these, (see below).  All of these sets are 8" EM focus sets, 1200 lumens, have digital convergence, on screen menus, wireless remotes, and are very easy to set up. I do the power supply modifications, and I've had great success shipping these all over the world. 75 Khz scan rate out of the Data models, 110 Khz out of the Graphics ones.

Barco 1000/1001/1500/1600

  More Information

These are ES focusing 9" LC sets with analog convergence. These use the hard to find Sony SD 146A tubes also used in the Ampro 4000 models. I will again list specific condition as to the sets, but again I know a lot of you out there have these sets and are looking for parts. I will sell these complete with road cases or will part out. It is a good way to get into a high resolution 9" sets for far less than the newer 9" LC sets sell for.

Ampro 4000/4200

More Information

Similar to the above 9" LC Barcos, these are ES focusing sets feature digital convergence and a wired remote. These also use the Sony SD 146A tubes. Based on the Ampro 2000 chassis.

The Ampro 4200 are full 9" EM focusing LC sets. These use the same tubes as the Sony 1292. 80 Khz scan rate, 1080p ready. 1000 lumens. These are a great inexpensive way to get into a 9" set. Sure, they don't have quite the focus of a G90, but they will outperform an 8" EM focusing set.

Ampro 4000:  Mint tubes, no wear, <2500 hours on the chassis, new tubes in 1997, 1000 lumens.

< NOSEND="1">  Ampro 4200:  These three sets came from an A/V rental company where they had little use. The tubes and case are in good shape, and I've replaced the memory battery so that they are good for the life of the set. Wired remote and manual included.

Electrohome Marquee 8xxx series

More Information

Basically, all Marquees are very similar in performance. All 8XXX series (non LC models) use the same 8" EM focusing tubes. Very similar in set up to the Barcos in general, these sets are quiet. Not as long as the Barco's in size, they are about 3" taller than the Barco series. Very modular in construction, and super reliable. Video, S-video and RGB inputs.

Here's the breakdown:

Marquee 8000: 1000 lumens. Circa 1994-1995.
Marquee 8110: 1200 lumens. Circa 1995-1998.
Marquee 8500: 1200 lumens. Circa 1995-1998. Adds astig controls that the 8000 and 8110 do not include, for slightly better corner focus.

The 8500LC model adds liquid coupled tubes for even better contrast ratios and less halo'ing.

I do all of the mods (including anamorphic squeeze mod and the power supply mods) required to make the Marquees more versatile and reliable. I've sold lots of these in the past with great results.

I've also got a slew of new Marquee sets in as below, with 15 more on the way. Now, here's the scoop. I have a LOT of good used tubes for these sets. I will drop pricing significantly based on the actual tube condition. Also as a bonus, the new tubes are indeed NEW for the next short while, while I use up the supply of NEW tubes that I have. I've got buckets and buckets of Marquees in stock, with another 12 8500's coming in.

NEC XG series

More Information

All NEC XG projectors are true 1200 lumen 8" EM focus sets. Digital convergence, on screen menus, video, S-video and RGB inputs are stock, the component option is available on the NEC XG 852 models. 100 point convergence allows for super accurate convergence. The NEC has more control over the picture than other 8" sets, making a full set up a bit daunting, but when it's complete, you'll find it's well worth the effort. Smaller than most competing 8" sets, they've been very reliable, and I've sold lots.

Here's the breakdown:

XG 75: Scans to 75Khz (past line quadrupling or 960p).
XG 85: Scans to 85Khz and has component inputs!
XG 110: Scans to 110Khz.
XG 135: Scans to 135Khz.

For home theater use, these models all behave very much the same.

'LC' models add liquid coupled tubes for better contrast ratios and less halo'ing.

Once again I have a number of XG projectors in stock, and a couple more to come in shortly.

Quantity

Price (USD)

NEC XG 75:  While these are the entry level XG sets, to me they throw out every bit as good of an image as the other non LC models do. I've actually got three sets here, but one is a parts unit. Yes, my parts stock of XG sets is growing. 75 Khz scan rate, One has a new green tube and excellent R and B tubes, the other has new G and B tubes.

2 New green: $2200.00

All original tubes in great shape: $2100.00

NEC XG 110:  Similar to the above units, these models do not have component input, but scan to 110 Khz. New green and blue tubes, in perfect shape.

1 $3000.00

NEC XG 110LC:  Same as above, but with new G and B tubes and liquid coupled.

1 $3500.00

NEC XG 852:  I have two of these sets in, one is a Runco 991 version with a white case. New G and B tubes. 85 Khz scan rate, Component inputs as well as RGB, video and S-video.

Sony G70

More Information

This is Sony's top of the line late model 8" LC set. 135 Khz scan rate, component input along with the regular video/s-video/RGB. 1200 lumens.

I have two more G70's in stock in working shape. I have not looked at one of them, the other needs G and B tubes. To be posted here soon.

Barco 1209 / 1209s

More Information

These are the equivalent to the Ampro 4600 or Electrohome 9500LC. 9" LC tubes, 1200 lumens, on screen menus, 135 Khz scan rate, video, S-video and RGB inputs.

The 1209 is the original version of this set with HD 10 lenses on it. The 1209s is the newer version and offers Scheimpflug adjustments for better corner focus on each tube. Both of the sets are flawless in every way.

Quantity

Price (USD)

Barco 1209: This set is in good shape for use in 16:9 widescreen mode, but the blue tube has a bit of uneven wear if used in the full 4:3 mode. The set is in great shape otherwise, as is the case cover.

1 $4000.00

Barco 1209: This set was used as a SEOS unit with curved screens, but I've unmodded all of the internal mods that they've done. The only thing left to do on this set is to retube it. These tubes were shimmed by SEOS so they currently have poor corner focusing on a flat screen. The red tube can be used without rephosphoring but needs to be unshimmed, the G and B have wear and need to be rephosphored. I'll sell this set cheaply for someone that wants to do the work themselves (or maybe you have good 9" tubes and need a working chassis). The set was made in 1997, so this is one of the later model 1209 sets.

Note: I have two more 1209 SEOS units coming in. These are being shipped in the original box, and they MIGHT be new 0 hour sets. I'll post more within 2 weeks.

1 $3000.00

Ampro 4600

More Information

These are state of the art 9" sets, and cost $58K back in 1996-1998. Full 9" tubes, liquid coupled. 110 Khz scan rate. A lot of adjustments on the convergence and picture parameters, this set is on par with the Marquee 9500LC, Barco 1209s, and apparently the Sony G 90..

Ampro 4600: I've got one of these on my ceiling right now, and have had it up for about 12 weeks. The blue and green are brand new. The red is original with no wear.  I use this to demo high end CRT projectors, and it does not disappoint. Original wired Ampro remote included, ceiling bracket included.

SIGNAL PROCESSORS

I've got stock of some factory reconditioned DVDO line doublers. I've got 4 V2's. These are excellent quality little doublers that have been out there for a while now. The V1's were the first units with one video and two S-video inputs. The V2's added aspect ratio conversion so that a 4:3 image would fit into a 16:9 screen. The PRO versions added one component input and color and tint controls. These should prove to be less money than buying one from the US for my Canadian customers. In original box with instructions, etc. A short 5' SVGA to 5 BNC cable is included, which may be extended with BNC to BNC couplers.

NEC IDC 3000 line doubler: This is the third generation line doubler that NEC put out, circa 1995 or so. A step above the first two generations, it offers superior signal processing over the first two models. BNC outputs and 5 inputs, it's got a number of adjustments on the front to set color and tint, etc. Original box and remote included.

Upcoming

(1) Sony G 90: Needs G and B tubes, currently working on a minor chassis issue. Case in good shape. The top of the line 9" set, period. Will be selling for $10K USD or so

(3) Sony 10XX series: Same as what I already have listed above.

(1) Barco 1200: Also the first good 9" EM focusing set that Barco made. Also from the rental company.

(4) Barco 800 series: In stock (almost) once again.

(8) Sony 12XX series:
In excellent shape.

(2) Barco 1208: Unknown condition.

(1) Ampro 3300: Unknown condition.

(1) Marquee 9500LC:
Unknown condition.

Again, keep in mind that I have about 50 sets in stock that are not on the above list. All are duplicates of what is listed above, so I have many many many sets here. If you don't quite see something on the list above, but think I have something that's close (or for less money with a scratched case and lightly worn tubes), shoot me an email.

I've also got a bunch of other miscellaneous A/V stuff on eBay over the next few weeks. I'm liquidating a bunch of A/V gear right now that I've taken in on trade. Keep an eye out for other electronics goodies......

Thanks for your support!
