Have you bought a CRT projector from Curt? Stick a pin in the map!

We thought it would be fun to create a Frappr map with all the people that have bought projectors from Curt in the past. If you're willing to help out, go to the following website and stick a pin in the map with your first name, location, and projector type.  Thanks!

OK, there's lots of new stuff that's happened here since the last mail-out.

Website Additions

I will be adding a few procedures over the holidays. These will include:

  • How to set up G2/white balances on ES focusing sets (DONE!)
  • Expanded Zenith PRO 900 tech info
  • Sony G70 tech info
  • Sony D50 tech info

Now that the website has spiralled way out of control and others are contributing articles (thanks for that!), even I don’t know everything that’s on the site. Check out the site, the forum members are also growing, there’s almost 900 members there now!

Transcoders

Audio Authority has now discontinued the 9A65 transcoder that I was selling in the past. I’ve got a couple of these units left, but have switched to the much more versatile AA 1365 model. This unit has no compatibility problems with any component source, and actually is a mini scaler, capable of outputting up to 1080p from a component source. The unit has on screen menus, control over the drive levels of each output (R, G, and B), has internal color and tint controls, and can also act as a reverse transcoder, (RGB input to component output). The pricing is a bit more expensive than the old transcoder, but at the added features, they are well worth the price. Also note that the transcoder comes with a short (1’) SVGA to 3 RCA cable for the component connection, and a 2’ SVGA to SVGA cable for the output.  . I’ve installed about 6 of these now personally, I’ve scaled a 1080i HD signal to 1080p through this box on a couple of sets. It looks great!  See here.

Accessories

I’ve now got good stock of short (5’) good quality SVGA to 5 BNC breakout cables. At $25 USD, these molded cables are usually stronger than custom made cables with that flimsy SVGA end soldered on. I then use BNC to BNC couplers to couple these to custom made BNC to BNC cables (also now on the site here).

Projectors,  projectors..

Current and upcoming 9" sets are currently being featured!

I’ve got many new sets in , all makes and models, so I’ll simply update the entire list of projectors, with a ‘new’ designation on the new arrivals. I have reduced pricing on the entry level on all Sony 10XX sets (with the exception of the 1001 that’s a later model) to $300 USD. Now EVERYONE can get into a CRT. I won’t be bringing in any more Sony 10XX series after this, but still will support them for a long time.

There’s a bunch of new NEC sets on the list. I managed to pick up 16 of them for low $$, but most of the cases have some gouges or scratches on them. No cracks or plastic chunks missing. The tubes are in great shape though. That means yet more price reductions!.. :)

Also new on the site are the high end hard to find NEC ISS-6010 switchers. I’ve got them listed as complete units or individual boards for those of you that already have these switchers and just need modules. I’ve got about 10 of these switchers left.

Generally I’ve held off on buying new sets this fall as I’ve had over 200 in stock for far too long. I have stumbled across several good deals lately, so I’ll do a set update just before Christmas. For now I’ve just made sure that the list below is up to date. I still have MANY sets in stock, and will be buying more shortly, as I seem to turn down more offers to buy sets than I actually purchase. There’s still lots of surplus sets out there.

I do have an abundance of 9” sets, including the hard to find Madrigal MP9 and the Vidikron Vision One. These are turbocharged Electrohome 9500LC Ultras. They just came in, I’m currently working through them. I do have too many Barco 1209 and regular 9500s, so see below for slightly reduced pricing. I’d LOVE to sell a couple of them before the end of the year.

A PLEA FOR HELP!

Now that this seems to be the world’s largest site dedicated to CRT projectors, I’m getting DAILY emails from newbies wanting assistance with setting up their projectors. Those of you that are now on their second or third upgrades and want to possibly make some extra money assisting others that have just purchased their first CRT, PLEASE see consider adding your contact info to our referral pages (see here). The more people that can assist in cities outside of the Vancouver area the better. Many newcomers to the CRT projector world simply need some guidance on basic setup. Share your knowledge and help each other out!

Parts n' stuff

I am adding parts to my stock daily. I seem to be one of the only places left that can repair virtually any CRT module down to a component level. With some other casual resellers now out of the business, rest assured I'll support ANY CRT projector out there, whether purchased from me or not.

Parts needed

I am looking for a few parts that I'm willing to buy or trade other stuff for:

(2) P19 green tube in an 8+ condition. Again, hardware is not important, I can swap that out.

(2) Ampro 2000 style remotes. I've got a need for two good working old style Ampro remotes. I've got lots of sets but few remotes.

As many 8” tubes as I can get. I’ve got a lot of NEC PG, PG Xtra, XG, Barco 808 and Marquee sets that need green and blue tubes. I’ll pay reasonable prices for any 8+ condition blue and green tubes to finish off these 20+ sets that I have here.

(4) Sony 07MP or 07MSP tubes. I’d like to sell off the Sony 12XX units that I have here, but 4 have worn blue tubes. Again, I’ll pay reasonable going rates for good blue tubes for these.

(2) each of blue and green P16 tubes as used in the Barco 708 sets. Again, I’ve got two great sets here, but with worn tubes, they can’t be sold.

Thanks for your support!

Curt

Sony 1292

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

This was Sony's flagship set prior to the G90 being released. It uses the same tubes as the Ampro 4200 and Barco 1200. Razor sharp performance with full 9” tubes, 110 Khz scan rate, 1000 lumens digital convergence, similar to the easy to set up 125X and 127X Sony sets. This is another great way to get into a true 9” EM focusing set.

Sony 1292:  A sale is pending on this unit (it will be here on Monday Dec 11), but it may come available. All I know about this set is that it works and the tubes are in good shape. Update to come soon.
(This set is upcoming.  I will look at this before Christmas and will update the information here.)

1 TBD!

NEC  10 PG

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The NEC 10PG is an EM focus set.  1000 lumens super sharp. It is the only 9" LC colour filtered  set that NEC ever made. 1080p capable.  Those that own one of these (see my forum), swear by the picture. This set gives those nice NEC fleshtones that I love and with 9” tubes, the tubes will last forever.

NEC 10 PG:  I got a 10PG in on a trade. 3400 hours with ZERO wear on the tubes. Remote and ceiling bracket included. I’ve got a road case to ship this in as well.

1 $4000.00

Barco 1200

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The 1200 was Barco's first entry into the 9" LC market. It used the same Sony 9" tubes as the Sony 1292 and Ampro 4200, and has the same basic chassis as the Barco 1208 or 1209. 1200 lumens, 135Khz scan rate.

Barco 1200: The tubes are in good shape, the case will need painting as it's marked up. Priced cheaply to move! A great way to get into the higher resolution of a 9" set.

Ampro 4200

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

The Ampro 4200 are full 9" EM focusing LC sets. These use the same tubes as the Sony 1292. 90 Khz scan rate, 1080p ready. 1000 lumens. These are a great inexpensive way to get into a 9" set. Sure, they don't have quite the focus of a G90, but they will outperform an 8" EM focusing set.

Ampro 4200:  Another set from the A/V company, the tubes were replaced in 1999 and the set was put into storage in 2000. I’m guessing there’s not more than 1000 hours if that on the tubes, they are milky white with not a hint of wear on them. Wired remote included, and your choice of HD 10 or HD10L lenses depending on your screen size. Wired remote included.

Barco 1209 series

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

These are the equivalent to the Ampro 4600 or Electrohome 9500LC. 9" LC tubes, 1200 lumens, on screen menus, 135 Khz scan rate, video, S-video and RGB inputs.

The 1209 is the original version of this set with HD 10 lenses on it. The 1209s is the newer version and offers Scheimpflug adjustments for better corner focus on each tube.

Barco 1209: These are black cased SEOS units that were designed to work on curved screens, I’ve converted them back to flat screen use. The black cases are scratched but can be painted, or I can drop on the regular Barco 1209 style cases on them. Tubes in great shape across the board on both of these.

2 $5000.00

Barco 1209: This set was only ever installed locally in a home theater. It's got a new (not rebuilt) green tube in it, the R and B show zero wear and are in great shape. The case has been painted in eggshell, similar to the original Barco case but it now has a smooth surface. Installs directly in place of a 1208 if you're looking to upgrade. An easy setup, Barcos are very intuitive.

1 $5800.00

Barco 1209s: NOW IN STOCK! New G and B tubes, original red with no wear. Perfect operating shape, only 5500 hours on the set. A top of the line performer, in line with the Sony G90 and the Marquee 9500 Ultra.

Notes:

The tubes in this Barco 1209s are in really good shape, slight wear on the green, the R and B are pretty darn good, and I'll give the buyer of the 1209s the option of buying the original set of tubes for a really good price.

While good condition 1209s sets are really hard to find, the parts and modules are not, so there's really good support out there for these sets.

Ampro 4600

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

These are state of the art 9" sets, and cost $58K back in 1996-1998. Full 9" tubes, liquid coupled. 110 Khz scan rate. A lot of adjustments on the convergence and picture parameters, this set is on par with the Marquee 9500LC, Barco 1209s, and apparently the Sony G 90.

Electrohome Marquee 9xxx series

  Manuals     Setup Tips     Specifications     Ranking

State of the art 9" sets.  9" liquid coupled tubes. 135Khz and 1200 lumens with astig adjustments for perfect corner focus. Scheimpflug adjustments are stock on these units.

Very easy to set up. Not as long as most projectors, they are about 3" taller than the Barco series. Very modular in construction, and super reliable. Video, S-video and RGB inputs.

I do all of the mods (including anamorphic squeeze mod, the power supply/filament mods, and replace a bunch of parts on the video boards that commonly fail) required to make the Marquees more versatile and reliable.

Marquee 9500LC: Once again I have a couple of good condition 9500s in stock. These are top of the line 9" sets that are easy to set up. Both sets have good tubes in them, I'd rate them all an 8+. As typical, the reds show no wear, the G and B are in really good shape. Emission and focus of all tubes are excellent. The cooling chambers have been checked to remove any excessive pressure that can result in glycol leaks.

Marquee 9500LC Ultra:  I've got one 9500 LC Ultra from 1999. The tubes are in great shape. They are 9+ across the board. 9,000 hours + out of these tubes. A great case as well.

0 $7500.00

Marquee 9500LC Ultra: This set has a NOS (new old stock) set of tubes installed. The tubes have been checked and are a 10 across the board. I've put on 50 hours of test time at low brightness to make sure the tubes are 100%, and they are... :) the GT17 lenses have been installed as came stock with most Ultra sets.

Vidikron Vision One: This is the Vidikron version of the 9500 LC set with the fancy case around it. This one is black and has (ready for this?), only 302 original hours on it. The tubes as expected are PERFECT with no wear.  Comes with original Vidikron remote. The case is in good shape as well. Paintable of course, but the piano black finish is in great shape. This one will ship in either a road case or a crate. Ceiling bracket included. These sets are VERY hard to find.

1 $9000.00

Madrigal MP9: Another supercharged 9500 Ultra.
(This set is upcoming.  I will look at this before Christmas and will update the information here.)
