CRT Projector Step-by-Step Setup Guide (FREE)

Back to the Products Index ...

This invaluable guide is for both beginners and advanced users alike and will walk you through setting up your CRT projector from start to finish.

This hands-on "how-to" video provides you with the grounding needed to get the most out of your CRT projector from start to finish. It starts with physical placement and covers everything on the way to getting the best 1080i/1080p picture possible.

The video shows a (high-end) Sony 1292 model being set up from start to finish to demonstrate both basic and advanced procedures that apply to CRT projectors. A lot of time is spend on parts that are universal to all projectors like physical positioning, astigmatism adjustment, etc. (Some higher end adjustments will not be available in lower end models).

The video is 2.5 hours long and compresses approximately 12 hours of work using a step-by-step guided approach. There is a fair bit of discussion as to why things are done a certain way as opposed to others. It is set out logically and in order (what to do when).

This video is a must-have for anyone new to CRT projectors as it gives you a hands-on step-by-step tutorial explaining all of the terms & principles that can sometimes be confusing to the new user. Advanced users can skip to the procedures they need the most help with or brush up on items they have problems with. The best way to get the most out of your CRT is to watch a pro set one up right.

Reviews/Testimonials

"I am very new to CRT projectors, and I am in the process of building a dedicated theater room. I had a Sony 1271 given to me about a month ago. I read the manuals and fiddled with the projector to get comfortable with it, but I was still very unclear on exactly what I was doing. I purchased the DVD, and received it a couple weeks ago. I will have to say that this DVD is a MUST for anyone who is new to CRT’s, I have watched it twice now, and certain chapters even more. The DVD is very in depth and covers the 1292 inside out! I was very impressed with Graham’s installation technique. The only problem with the DVD is after watching how nice it was to have lens angle adjustments, flapping adjustments, and EM focus, I went out and bought a G70, and I have never even watched the 1271 yet!" - FireAnimal

"I have a Barco 808s and an Ampro 4300 and if like me you are quite new to CRT and have never really gone under the hood, get this DVD. The setup is for a Sony, but the principles are very much the same I could say, astig is really difficult for me, even after people explain it, once you see it done it helps a lot though. On my Ampro I really needed a hand with astig! The step by step procedure is thorough, you don't feel like you have missed out on anything, this DVD is worth every penny, pence or cents." - Incova

"I can highly recommend this DVD for a beginner. Even though it didn't relate to my [Marquee 9500] Ultra's or a blend... it did make it more comfortable for me to see someone else with experience at work, which seemed to bridge the gap for me and give me enough confidence to start doing things and knowing that I was on the right track." - Gino

"The biggest insight for me was to see how a Pro Calibration methodically goes thru items in sequence and for what reasons....Grahams DVD showed me what I'd been doing right as well as what area's I could extract better performance from my G70." - NewbieDan

"I thought I'd just chime in and say that this DVD is a great piece of work! It's geared at Sony projectors, but could actually be very useful for any novice who is about to set up any CRT for the first time. Many basic principles could be understood quickly by viewing this DVD! Recommended!" - Arioch

"I watched your video. It's great to follow your clear explanation & instruction step by step." - Cheung

"I got my DVD this week. WOW!!! Great stuff. I never really understood Astig until I watched this. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words (or 100 thousand articles). A MUST for any novice CRTer."  - Dwight

"Just got my DVD and am about 1/2 way through it... Not to boast but I've set up my fair share of CRT projectors (different models, different types), and have written a lot of the content for Curt's site here so I didn't think I'd learn much from the DVD, but I wanted to see what it was all about since everyone's saying good things about it. The first thing that struck me was: GRAHAM REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF! Wow! Good work! What I didn't expect was that it's not just a DVD that explains "what do I do" but also goes into the "why is it done" and "what's the story behind this" and the "what's the historical reason for that". Again, good job Graham! The topics are items I have a good handle on, but you know what? Watching someone else with a ton of CRT experience set up a projector from start to finish is really refreshing and eye-opening. They don't always do things the exact same way as you so it's really interesting/refreshing. Watching it felt like I was sitting around having a beer with Graham talking shop. I'm sure Curt and the other techs would get a real kick out of this! The last thing I didn't expect was for it to be entertaining! Graham's a funny guy! Now this is by no stretch of the imagination a comedy or anything, but I found myself chuckling along half the time as Graham and his friend talked/cursed about all things CRT. Again, good work Graham! P.S. When's the director's cut or special anniversary edition coming out with the bloopers? :)" - Kal (curtpalme.com webmaster)

"Got my DVD on Monday, but have watched only parts of it so far. It is really very instructive, very helpful to actually SEE guys doing a setup. Lots of new stuff that I learned. Great work ! And I just love that Aussie-English accent..." - ThomasW
