Some of you may have read that I picked up an 8111 from another forum member. The tubes in the Marquee are not bad, but there is some wear, I would rate at 7+ for all three tubes. The BG 1208/2 I just took down from the ceiling has new tubes with less than 200 hours on them. I think it was Dragonm that mentioned a mod to install the 1208 tubes in a Marquee? I would like to do this if it doesn't exceed my minimal electronic aptitude.

Thanks,
Joel

Hi,
I don't know what tubes exactly in the 1208/2 but this might help:

Desolder the pin socket first - you will need ~ 5/32" ( 0.156") to clear the
flying lead. Barco G2 is pin 6. Everything else is the same.

The modification to the neck-board is fairly simple , the problem is the Physical swap. After draining the Glycol you will need to cut both tubes out of their housings and Re-pot the barco tubes in the MArquee housing wiht RTV Silicone. The 8" tubes are the worst, even more difficult than the 9's.
Then after that you will need to carefully cut off the High voltage boots and swap them as I don't think the connectors are the same between barco and marquee. If you marque has the loose fitting boots to the HV wire that whole area should be cleaned and filled with RTV as well.
IT's quite the project, also make sure you wrap the fragile tube neck and pin-out area's with some kind of foam so you don't ruin a tube while wrestling with it.

Am I missing something here? I haven't observed any difference in AC 8"
housings between Barco and Marquee - Unless he has a LC machine,
the tubes should be a direct fit, including the HV connectors - possibly
need to add the ground tape on the bells, but older 1208's had that also.

I do not have an LC machine, so I hope zGman is correct, otherwise I will probably go back to the 1208 ILO switching tio the 8110.

I'll try to get some pics of both this weekend.

There's nothing wrong with the 1208, I had to cut a hole in duct bulkhead to get the 1208 to fit in my theater. The 8111 fits in front of the bulkhead because of the shorter chasis.

As I understand it, the 8110 did not come with zone astig - that may be important to you,
or maybe it has been upgraded with new focus coils and the control and drive boards?
The other issue could be headroom, but you have probably looked at that.
I guess you are having some access issues with the rear of the 1208 stuck in a wall,
kinda hard to get to the H & V size/shift adjustment pots in the electronics bay, etc?

well you would certainly know better than me. I'm not a braco guy but the ones I saw were LC and very diffierent looking chamber.
If it's the exact same AC chamber then that will be an easy swap. Just the yokes, maybe the ground tape, and your done. Thumbs Up
Well except for the G2 wire but that's not too hard, Joel let me know if you need help with that.

I'm struggling a little with getting the tubes out of the Marquee. I removed the top half of the plastic housing around one tube, there are two alan head bolts at the top of the tube that appear to hold the tube to the chassis/mounting bracket thingamajig. Do I remove those bolts and the tube lifts out? It doesn't appear to be that simple.

Not that I'm there yet, but I don't quite understand the procedure. Do I drill out pin 6 and that's it?

Oh - and I want to clean everything up while I'm in there, do I just use contact cleaner from Radio Shack and spray everything down, wipe up the dirt and move on or am I better off just using compressed air and blowing out as much as I can?

If it did, do you want to trade for your 9500 with Moome card? I'm all in if you pick up shipping for both.

Just kidding. I'm not sure about either of your questions, tell me what to look for and I'll let you know.

nah thanks it serves me well Smile, besides i have the 2-4-6 flare magnets, they came from a 8110.
i think electrohome put them on because this model comes without electronic astig adjustment.
the flare magnets can be found at the back of the tube right behind the focus coils.

a friend of mine bought a 8110 for spare boards and got a 03p vim with it, maybe those 03p are found on these models.

look at model number 50-2035-03p.

You will want to remove the tube assemblies completely from the marquee chasis and then remove the
plastic housings and you will see 4 allen head bolts that attach to the tube mounts. Same on the 1208 -
you have to remove the assemblies to get at the 4 screws that hold tubes to mounts. This is not so difficult,
they are both designed so that tube replacement is 'easy' if you follow this procedure.

Thanks zGman, I was able to get the first tube swapped over so I'm ready to mod the VNB. I don't want to drill the pin until I'm 100% sure I'm doing the right thing, can someone verify that all I need to do is drill out pin 6 with a 1/8" drill?

The bell ground (not sure that is te corect terminolgy) is slightly different on the tubes. The Barco has one wire to a spring and tape, while the EHome has two wires to tape. I looks to me like they serve the same purpose, do I just change the terminal on the single wire and use just one wire?

I would use a solder pencil to heat the pin socket for pin six until you can push it thru
the circuit board and remove. Then you will need to enlarge the hole - 5/32" will work
better, or 11/64" if you have it. The flying G2 lead needs to fit all the way thru the board
to fully engage the pin.

I think you may need to lengthen the Barco ground lead to reach the Marquee neckboard.
And you will also need to change the terminal connector. Do Not Run without this connected,
you will at the very least kill your V-Def board - and fast!
Or you can transfer over the Marquee ground tape with the help of a heatgun/hairdryer
and lots of finesse.

Cheers,
