I know all of the top end 9" PJs have lens flapping but is it really necessary if you can get your PJ parallel to the screen how much difference does it make?

I am building a PJ with different tubes and can either go with or without lens flapping and don't have lens flapping on my current PJ and since there is a fair bit of work if I go with lens flapping I thought I would ask for some advice. Idea

No difference if tubes are glued to correct angle to hardware, but usually they are not. With flapping you are not tied to one projection distance and projection angle like with glued tubes.

10PG's don't have lens flapping and it doesn't prevent them from being dialed in for correct focus across the screen. The caveat is that if you do NOT have lens flapping, then you must place your projector relative to your screen absolutely perfectly, there is no compromise if you don't have lens flapping.

So the problem is actually two fold. The projector needs to be parallel to the screen and the tubes need to be glued correctly I gues parallel to the back of the lens and since I have to clue the tubes there is room for error. OK so we go with lens flapping I have two lens flapping systems one from an Ampro and some of the parts from a Sony 1292 is there anything wrong with either of these as I am using Sony tubes?

If tubes are glued parallel, flapping is good only for green tube when projector is installed on axis projection. So that tubes/lenses are installed to zero angle in center of screen, but still R/B have incorrect horizontal flapping.

Here is more info.

While I like the idea of not bothering with lens flapping the degree of accuracy required to get a sharp image is beyond me. If I had factory mounted tubes I would feel more comfortable but since I have to mount all the tubes again then I would like the ability to correct any issues that have been pointed out.

So is there any problem using either the Ampro or Sony 1292 lens flapping setup Question

Did I read somewhere on this forum that Ampro LC tanks are only good on an Ampro something about the tank shape??

I am now leaning towards the advice Ile gave and not bother with lens flapping as all the lens flapping soltions have some sort of bellows that will leak and I am unsure about the Ampro solution. The Barco non lens flapping solution has external hoses that can easily be replaced I just need to get the tubes mounted properly.

I just went through the whole exercise of mounting the tubes with the proper Scheimpflug. I have a topic about it: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=21765.html.

I had a special tool made to measure the settings of the old tubes and transfer that to the new tubes. Actually I found that the original SP was incorrect for my screen size, so I calculated the proper settings and used that.

Unfortunately I cannot tell yet if it all worked.
