Hello everyone,
I am located in Huntsville, Al and I was just wondering if there were others in my area that have CRT setups. I have met Z-Photo and he was kind enough to invite me over to check out his setup and to be honest, that is what really sold me on CRT!! I have since purchased a Sony G70 but I am a complete novice at this so I was wondering if there is anyone that might have a G70 setup close by that they would not mind showing off and possibly even assit me in my setup. Z-Photo was very gracious and hospitable so I don't want to impose on him again and wear out my welcome. Thanks in advance guys.

Hi, there -
I can't help with the local assistance request unfortunately, but I just wanted to tell you not to forget about the wealth of information on the G70 and CRT's in general already in the forum (search!), and there are several active G70 owners (including me), so feel free to ask questions if you get stuck!

Thanks for the replies guys!! I knew that there would be plenty of people here that would share their knowledge with me but to know that there is someone fairly close that I can possibly get some tutoring from to keep me from screwing something up is a great asset. I am a visual learner and it helps me to watch something be done before I attempt it. Cary thanks for letting me know that you are out there and hopefully I can check out your 9500 picture!! If you need any help with your install just contact me and if nothing else I can lend a little muscle to your install. Thanks again.

SC,
How long have you owned the G70? Just giving you a heads up, if it's ok with you I will contact you later into my setup to make sure that I am getting the most out of G70! Thanks again.

No problem!
I actually bought my machine on ebay with stated problems. I took delivery and stashed it for the better part of a year, assuming it was going to be a big project. When I finally got it into, it turned out the machine was essentially like brand new and the problem was likely just a board or two that wasn't seated properly. I went over the whole machine with a fine-toothed comb, fired it up, and it had 100-some hours on it... Literally like brand new. I think I've had it in my room for a year or so... I actually can't remember.
Have you bought Graham's setup DVD? If you're a visual learner, it would be worth every cent. You don't even have to do all the things he goes through, but it will really help you understand all the different phases of the setup process. You can do an abbreviated setup from his DVD, then as you get more familiar, do it again in more depth. He's setting up a Sony 1292 in the video, but all the controls and mechanical adjustments are essentially the same between the 1292 and G70.

Learning how to setup a CRT is very iterative. Actually, the setup itself is iterative, and the learning process to do it right is iterative. The more you do it, the more you understand how everything relates. What is very confusing at first will make complete sense after you go through it a few times. We see it all the time, here... People ask lots and lots of questions because it seems very complex (and it is), but once you jump in and do it a few times, it makes much, much more sense than it does if you've never done it.
Like I said - do some searching and reading, too... There are many, many threads on setting up different machines - a few specifically on the G70 - that would give you a great basic understanding, too.
I'll see if I can find an old post that outlines the basic steps for you, too.
Cheers,
SC
