|
|
Hi all,
managed to gather parts and build a HTPC to serve as source with our NEC XG-110LC
So now I'm in the process of getting things setup, and was hoping to get some further input with respect to an issue I previously mentioned in here.
I've connected the HTPC with 1080i at 96Hz as suggested by Mark in another topic, the ticking/static sound is still there but I now think I've managed to locate it - it appears to come from the tube neck, within one of the plastic capsules that can be adjusted if loosening the wing screw. I think it's the 2nd one, or the one furthest to the back of the tube neck & board.
Is this something I should worry about? It has nothing to do with overheating as it kicks in the very second I fire up the PJ. It's a constant sound, as I described it earlier it's as if a fan is touching a wire. But it's not that, it's something electrical it would seem.
Any ideas?
Cheers
//Joris

Are you sure it’s not the fan on the green neck board?...That fan is horrible loud....I used some Velcro to hang a PC power supply fan to blow air on the board…It’s lasted 8 years that way.

I'll doublecheck, think I got everything back in place correctly but might've missed something, or messed up. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm fairly sure it's not that fan as it's no longer in place
I'm pretty convinced the sound does indeed come from within the black plastic on the tube neck.

Does the picture have corresponding little ticks or blips in it?
We had an Xtra with a bad WAVE board which caused the Focus/Astig coil to make a ticking noise, and the image had little horizontal ticks/blips/streaks in it.
If it's the BLACK plastic coil, then that's the Convergence and Deflection coil. Does the convergence or defection misbehave?
Can you start swapping coils around? You could also swap connections for the C drive..carefully. See if the issue goes with the C drive "channel" or the coil.

The picture seems fine, or well... it's crap to be honest but that's because I have yet to do the entire setup. But I can't really see any pattern corresponding to the sound I'm hearing. Also after trying to discern the source once more I'm afraid i really can't tell whether it indeed comes from the tube neck or from the PCB next to it...
