Hi all,
I have learned a lot about this projector's setup challenges and have overcome some to produce a nice HD Satellite picture at 720p and 1080i but unless the camera shot is a close-up, the picture looks a tad fuzzy( blury).
I have the mechanical focus ok but the left upper and lower corners are not perfect. Anyhow, I have tried to follow the manual's AQP/DQP and AHP/DHP procedures and well, I find it confusing and a pain in the butt.
I can't seem to get a round beam shape in blue or green so my question: Do I have to adjust the tube's magnets to achieve this, then go back to the electronic adjustment for fine-tuning? If so, how is this done?
Also, the left and right edges of the picture seem cut-off as the tv network's logos are missing the last letter. I'm using a Moome card with HDMI. Maybe I should post this comment in the Moome section. DVD sources are perfect.
Thanks and please overlook the non-technical terms I used.
Cheers,
Gary

Hi Gary. Coincidentally I have a G70 and was just working on EM focus and astig the night before last. I had a hell of a time with the sides and corners, and was planning on posting about it, so this is particularly timely. I'll ask Jeremy to move this thread to the CRT forum. I have several questions about EM and astig, too.
As for the picture being cut off, have you made sure your blanking is fully released to see if the rest of the picture is "out there". If it is, then you can just use RGB size to bring the pic size back down, and re-blank to the screen edge. I have no problems at all getting all the picture with 1080i or 1080i, but I am using and HD Fury.

Thanks for replying so quickly!
I have tried all those adjustments and am taking full advantage of the rasters's size so the screen is 87" x 59" (105 diagonally), not exactly true 16:9 but most of my viewing, for now, is (HD)TV. The projctor is 109" from the screen. I would not want to use more of the rasters as I want the baby to last. Btw, the tubes have 5711hrs on them and look pristine.
This is why I suspect the PJI-HD Moome card.
Let's hope we can get the focus issues resolved. I have a Christmas party planned! LOL
There is a posting below which outlines CPC magnet adjustment, I might try that and then try to fine tune the electronic focus unless someone chimes in with something else to do.

Hi Gary,
I'm only about an hour away in Lunenburg, so if I can be of any assistance in person, let me know. EM focus is not too hard on a G70 provided your mechanical and optical setup has been carefully done. The procedure is outlined in the manual starting at p68. Its been a while since I did this, but I think the starting values should be at 128 to start. Go through the menus in all zones/colors and make sure this is so before you begin. Once you have the center sharp with ALL, record the value and add 40 or so to it with the hor. arrow on the remote. All dots should now be flared. Adjust 2PH & 2PV to move the dot to the center of the flare. Return to sharp focus -80. Should now have big fuzzy dots, eggs or hotdog shapes, depending on adjustment needed. Adjust 4PH & 4PV to make fuzzy dots as circular as possible. Pay attention to the 8 dots around the edge of the adjustment area. Goal is to get all nine dots as close to round as possible with DQP and the dots in the centers of the flares with AQP. Move on to next zone and repeat. It's not hard, but to do it right takes a loooooong time. I would recommend 2 or 3 sessions to give your eyes a break. This will affect your convergence and geometry slightly. Don't forget to save your work. You are most welcome to come down for a visit; just shoot me a PM.

Hi Will,
Your reply has helped me out a lot. I was not too clear on what I was trying to achieve with the flaring etc., and now have some clarity. Thank-you for taking the time to post!
I'm actually in Windsor, so we're closer!
I will be working on this tonight.
Cheers,
Gary

Gary, I'm using the same Moome HDMI card as you. You should be able to get a good sharp image from that. SC is right on about the blanking, take it off until you are finished and satisfied with your picture. It should be one of the last things you do. Here's what my setup looks like: (taken with compact digital camera.
