|
|
Anyone ever seen this before? There's one bright line at top of the raster which is acutally wider than the internal test patterns (raster) along the tube face. Then there is a second line below it which kinda bows in the middle.
I have just installed new LUGs on the 9500 Ultra's. It happens randomly for random periods of times and then disappears again. It happens with external sources and with internal test patterns. It happens on all 3 of my tubes at the same time

Yes, I have tried changing almost every option in the menu, no change

Today I tried changing over the CLM and VIM and lines still there.
I also played around with the raster, changing size and geometry and convergence makes the lines follow. Blanking makes the lines slightly dimmer but doesn't blank them out.
Now a flickering raster and noisy raster is occuring randomly. I'll try swapping the HVPS and LVPS tomorrow.

Does sound similar to some of the symptoms I'm experiencing, but it appears those are for projectors made in 1995. One would assume with my projectors being made in 2002, that these fixes would have already been applied?

You would think so. Could however indicate the problem is in the vertical deflection module. Have you tried swapping that yet?

That will be tonight, I plan on swapping every part I can over.

Aurrrggghhhhhh... now I'm getting frustrated. After spending many hours I've swapped over the:
VIM, CLM, HDM, FCM, Astig Board, Convergence Board, CCM, VDM, LVPS, HVPS and still have the same problem on all 3 rasters. Have tried running each tube connected one at a time and still get the same problem.
I've noticed that if the projectors have had time to cool, it takes longer for the problem to present itself. But now, when it has, it rarely goes away.
I've also reinstalled the stock fans to check if its a cooling issue.

It sounds like the only think left would be the neck boards. Try disconnecting the cables from the VIM to the neck boards to try to isolate where the problem is. If the problem persists with the VIM cables disconnected most of the video chain is likly ok. As it's happening on all three tubes it's not likely a neck board problem unless something was damaged on all three when you modded them for use with the LUGS.

Check also solderpoints at vnbīs multipinconnectors. |
Lowering G2 levels doesn't get rid of the line.
Solderpoints? You are referring to the white connector at the bottom of the neck board?

I'll try tonight. I had Mike Parker do the LUG mods for me. The other projector works without these problems.

Possibly a poor ground somewhere if not from the leak.

This problem is weird. It seems to not be related to any of the boards, nor an external source.
I've had similar noise problems that were hard to figure out, but in the end it was a defective yoke in one case. And a defective HVPS in the other. If they too have been swapped around, I'd suspect the HV splitter.
Not sure what else could be causing this but a good new should include the yokes, splitter and I would also try removing the focus and stig modules from connection and seeing what happens.
I'll be out for most of the day, but will be available later tonight. And from there I'll run the test unit and we'll see what we can do to make this problem go away from this end.

It seems the glycol is the culprit, the 'A site' lists the glycol inside one of the connectors on the backplane, it appears that this, once cleaned will solve the quirkiness of the LUG trying to display Sony AKB lines

Just keeping this site up to date:
| Quote: | Yep, after swapping just about every board in there, I told Cliff that the only thing left was the back plane and the top motherboard and I was hoping it wasn't that because It's going to be a 3 hour job to get beneath them.
Then I recalled this morning that when we removed the old tubes that the green tube had a slight leak. Now that that projector had been sitting that way for over 4 months unused, there's a good chance that glycol had slowly made its way to these boards. I can confirm that there was some glycol found sitting on the table beneath the projector.
So hopefully this is the problem and things are back up and running tonight. |
| Quote: | After spending a couple of hours removing everything out of the projector to get to the backplane board, it is obvious that there is glycol in the sockets which connect to the upper motherboard. (Why did they design it like this?! Those of you who have had to remove this backplane board know what a major PITA it is to completely remove it)
Will clean and let dry over night, I'm 99% sure that this explains the strange things I've been seeing. |
