Ok now that the HD war is over I'm thinking about buying a PS3 for my BD808. My question is it really worth getting one to use to watch movies on a BD808?
From Curts crt ranking the 808 can do 1080p but it might be blury.
Am I better off doing a Mike Parker another upgrade to my prj or go directly to a Fury?

My current system has a momitsu to HD Leeza and then out to my pj. I am also running Bell expressvu HD box.

thanks

Is Mike Parker still doing 808 mods? I though he suspended them for now.

Why don't you do 1080i? And yes, get that PS3 and get that HDFury and if you still have the bucks, get a Crescendo RTC2200 for gamma.

It's all worth it.

well my hdleeza apparently is scaling my momitsu up to 960p and the picture looks pretty good. I got the joust mod on it right now for the lens which was a good cheap upgrade.

I was also thinking about the eisaman (sp?) upgrade kit he has as well.
Just trying to figure where the best place to spend my $$ on upgrading.

But it's just upscaled SD. It will not under any circumstances look anything like HD. If fact, it looks exactly like SD, just without the scanlines. That's all that scaling does: Removes the scanlines.

HD and the PS3 is worth it for ANY projector that can handle 1080i/60. That's any projector that can scan to about 34Khz which is most of them.

The difference is not subtle.

- x6 times the resolution (of even your upscaled momitsu)
- wider HD colour gamut instead of limited SD colour gamut
- Typically much better transfers on Blu-ray discs than SD discs. Less edge enhancement, macroblocking, mosquito noise, posterization, etc.

The best place to spend your money is on HD. Seriously. The eisemann upgrade will cost you as much as the PS3 + HDfury + RTC2200 combined but will only give you DVI input and some projector performance mods.

* NO PERFORMANCE MOD, NO MATTER HOW GOOD, CAN MAKE SD LOOK LIKE HD*

Put it this way, I would rather watch a low end Barco 800 displaying Blu-ray than a high end Barco Cine 9 displaying SD DVD. Seriously.

I even watched HD on my Barco 800 and the difference between SD and HD was night and day.
I can also recommend the HDfury/RTC2200 combo as the way to go. It's what I use and it's fantastic.

Kal

Thanks Kal.
that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear.
I need to sort out what I need and don't need in my equipment rack.

The other mods are all good, but they're things I'd do after you're already running HD (Blu-ray).

Yeah,

Sounds like something you could doubt but... there is no doubt possible in this case.

High Def content is the stuff. Has been for a long time but it's more accessible then ever.
