I have a late maodel 1252 with 07MSP tubes. What do I have to do to run a set of 07MP's in their place?

They should be a straight swap, with the only difference being the focus pots will be nearly maxxed out.

IF you have the focus/G2 block from the projector donating the 07Mp's, swap it in also and the focus pots will adjust normally.

Not sure what to say for the G2 voltage adjustment. A late model 1252 is of course set to 1.5v . ANY 07MP Sony machine will be 4.0v . Those in the know will chime in about that I am sure.

No, the 1st generation machines(no extra groundwire coming from the PA board) ran normal 4.0v G2 with 07MSPs. My guess is the G2 voltage spec stays the same as original on the machine no matter what tubes are installed.

Ecrabb has actually mixed the two types in his machines, so if he sees this I am sure he will let you know about the focus pot issue. AFAIK the swap is still doable without changing the whole focus/G2 block, though.

Oh, almost forgot. The 07MSP, which is supposedly slightly brighter and sharper, is only so with low hours(under approx. 3000 if treated well). After that the 07MSP actually wears faster, and seems to lose focus faster also(probably from less durable phosphors) Sad . Actually the blue 07MSP seems to wear quite fast no matter what, moreso than the blue 07MP. So, if you swap in a nice set of 07MPs you will probably actually have a brighter and sharper machine Very Happy .

Yep, that's the swap I did - 07mp's into a 1252. My work buddy is still running that machine after almost 2 years. He uses the crap out of it. He would have probably spent more on a bulb or two by now for a digital than what he spent on the whole machine. Sorry - I digress...

I had no issue at all with G2, although I remember which gen machine it was. Nobody even mentioned G2 as a possible issue before I did the swap. I had only one focus issue, and that was the tube, I think. The blue and green tubes focused really well, and I had plenty of focus range (the pots weren't maxed at all - I don't know that it even changed much from where it was). The one issue I had was that the red tube wouldn't focus very well. Given that it was only one tube, I'm guessing it was the tube itself. It was a set with very light text burn I bought from Hammerhead off fleabay for $100. A $100 projector, a $100 set of tubes, and my buddy bought it for $200. He got a cheap projector and I got to learn how to retube my first projector for free!

Heh heh... Funny this came up. Just yesterday, I googled my username accidentally because I wasn't watching what field I was typing into - and started looking through the search results. I found the thread where I was asking about this swap...

My gawd, that was 3 years ago. Where the hell did the time go?
