|
|
Hi!
Moome wouild like a few more 'real world' shakedown tests (mostly of the software) of his new NEC XG HDMI 1.3 input card so he's looking for some volunteers.
Anyone interested in testing this card for Moome should email me at webmaster@curtpalme.com. Please include the following information:
- Why you think you're qualified to do this testing
- What your video chain setup consists of (source devices/screen size/XG projector type/resolutions used)
- What your experience is with the XG chassis (ie: whether you set up the projector yourself or had someone else do it for you)
- Other HDMI converters you may have tried
- Whether you have access to a digital camera to take screenshots like these
- Any electronics experience you might have
- How much you're willing to bribe me to pick your name out of the list
Preference will be given to those who know their way around the XG chassis and are comfortable setting up new memory blocks/etc. Sorry, but if you don't the difference between image area and raster, or edge enhancement from macroblocking, please do not apply.
You will be send a (hopefully) final build of the card and you would be able to keep the card after the testing of course. If you already had one of the cards pre-ordered, I'm sure Moome will let you cancel and keep the freebie.
Kal

Dam, as tempting as it is to try, I know I'm not qualified like many here are. I'm setting up my second XG now and doing a tube swap but I'm not sure I could provide the critical analysis that you need. Crap! A free card would be awesome and would complete my setup.

Kal, I put a different XG chassis on the bench about once a week. Have a Toshiba 1080p player on the bench.
Can't take screenshots worth crap, I don't spend a huge amount of time doing tweaking, but I can run the card through a variety of chassis....

Since Curts name is at the top of the page, I say he should get this one.

I guess I would be interested.
I use an HTPC with Powerstrip and HDMI so I could setup about any resolution and refresh rate available.
I have a Moome gen 1 XG card that I don't use because of black crush issues. Not sure that is plus.
I don't own a PS3 but have access to one.
I just did a NEC 1:1 resolution testing on avs with some screen shots.

Kal,
I might be interested in testing one of those cards in an NEC switcher.

I want to get Curt final versions of *all* his cards, I need to email Moome about it.

Competition was tough, lots of very qualified people wrote in within the first hour of me posting! Insane. I've picked 2 names that I think covers everything needed and them some:
JArseneau: Owns 4 working XGs ! (135LC the main one), knows the chassis inside and out, Electrical Engineer with tools ('scope/DMM/etc) and experience with SMD soldering, uses Moome's older XG DVI card, has used HDfury, has lots of HDMI/DVI sources: PS3, satellite HD box, Toshiba HD DVD, Oppo switcher, MyHD tuner card, HTPC with Nvidia graphics card.
KennyG: Well known XG owner/guru for very long time who's been helpful to other XG owners in the past on AVS, has set up 5 XGs as well as other projectors. Knows the chassis inside and out, electronics experience. Owns Moome's older XG DVI card. Has HDMI switcher, Samsung Blu-ray player, HD DirectTV receiver, etc. Was one of the first to pre-order the XG-FULLHD card.
Thanks again everyone.
Kenny: I emailed you as I'll need your mailing address/phone number to send off to Moome.

Well, I hope they come back with good news as I would love to simplify my video chain with one of these. I would be interested in one or both of these guys doing a comparison between the new card and the HD-Fury - RTC2200 combination as this is what I would be replacing myself. I would be willing to let them use my Fury and Kimcoder for the testing and comparison. Just let me know guys.

I will be very interested in noise. This is my biggest issue with running analog now, I would love to see it reduced or eliminated.

Guys,
I will be asking Kenny and Jerry to *NOT* post comments here on the forum as to what they think about the card. Standard NDA clauses will apply.
Remember that the main purpose of this is to test the functionality of the new XG-FULLHD card, not to "review" it publicly, especially since these will be pre-production versions. They may end up being the final version, but they're still pre-production today. The testers will mainly be concerned with ensuring it works properly and that there isn't something wrong with the picture (like ringing or other picture problems).
If the version they test turns out to be the final version (which we hope is the case) then they will be allowed to express their thoughts here.
This is very standard. Posting public opinions on something that isn't deemed 'final' is usually a big no-no unless you have consent from the company you're testing for.
