Hi All,

I am about to put up an XG 110 that I just retubed and I have a question on mounting it. My current projector 9PG+ is hung by it's feet holes using a 4 small rectangular brackets and unistrut. However I'm afraid this maybe putting undue stress on the projector please see the picture below.

My question is should I mount the XG using it's feet holes or use the original ceiling mount holes? In either case I think I'm going to need to switch the orientation of the unistrut so that it runs across the projector instead of running parallel to it. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this as well.

thanks, Aaron

I am using the feet holes. People warned against it at first but it has been hanging there for about a year now. It is pretty solid.

As long as everything is run up evenly on your threaded rod then I think it's okay to use the feet holes for mounting. However, I do remember seeing a user that did this and his projector fell to the ground. It turns out that one corner had a little more tension on it than the others so it was in a bind for who knows how long. The thin metal of the projector frame ripped apart and you know what happened next. I'm sure the pictures are over on AVS somewhere. Personally, I would find the original ceiling mount and use it with the brackets that come with it. The brackets secure to the bottom of the projector frame with four small bolts each. The mount fits close to the ceiling using threaded rod in four holes and then you just hang the projector from those side brackets onto the mount ears. The part I had problems envisioning was the factory mount and how it penetrated the ceiling and what held it at the other end. I was trying to make it so much more complicated than it needed to be. Two pieces of Unistrut crossing a few rafters, four 1/2" holes in your ceiling for the threaded rod and a few large washers, jam nuts, etc. Sorry I don't have a picture of the mount without the projector hanging from it but you can see the mount and the ears that mount to the frame of the projector in the last pic below. Having done it this way I would NOT try it any other way. I am completely confident in the security and safety of the way I mounted mine and the few bucks I spent were well worth it. If you need a factory mount they periodically come up on Ebay and I might even know of someone with one close to me. Of course, all of this is dependent on you having access above your ceiling.

XG should be fine hanging by the feet holes.

It is the PG which may not be, and only if the chassis has copped some previous damage. It has a few holes around the front feet threaded insert which weaken it in tension at the front...where all the weight is.

Thanks for the info guys.

Your setup looks nice Dropzone unfortunately for me my theater is directly under my daughter's bedroom so that's not an option for me.

thanks
