First of all I am sorry about the other tread I had about selling my older projector, it didn't occur to me that it would be questionable.
Anyway, I've got bigger fish to fry. I went and picked up my 8110 today and got it back to the shop to set it up and low and behold, no line doubler. I know, I should have investigated such a thing, but I was so excited about 8" CRT's and 1000 lumens that I was blinded.
Everything looks great running through my computer with the breakout cables. The coaxial signal from the satellite which then runs through a VCR on the other hand, not so much. Using the same set-up with the D50 produced a reasonable image, not so with the 8110. I tried running the satellite through the coaxial input on my computer, but the result was kind of sketchy. The image seemed pixelated to me.
What do you guys think? What would you do in this situation?

Oh my goodness, 435 dollars. That's a bit out of my price range, the projector only cost 401. Are there any other lower cost solutions? I hate to give up the 8110...
That's for the help...
OK, HD fury that's more reasonable

So why was the picture better on the D50? The line doubler?

Trust me its a lot cheaper than a Video processor and it will be all you ever need. the hd fury is cheaper but is a bit softer from what i have read. you could also get a transcoder, but if you plan on going blu ray or useing your hd sat box get the moome card... he doesnt make them often and it will be a long long wait for the next batch if he ever makes more.

what source were you using for the d50? And type of connection. RGBHV is the best for crt if you never used that you never seen a great picture then. Set up can also be a factor. the marquee's are one of the best projectors out there. but anyhting from the quad decoder board looks like crap its just for a quick set up for presentations and stuff , that input was not meant for home theater or high resolution stuff. Look at some screen shots on the marquee maintanence thread on the last pages i think, you can see how nice the moome card can be.

here is a pic from my marquee on a 12 foot screen.

I had the satellite cable running to my VCR which then outputted to the projector via an RCA video cable.

I have BNC cables for the computer but the D50 didn't handle the image very well.
What sort of input does the HD fury have? can I hook my regular DVD player to it or is it HDMI only? The DVD player looked a lot better before as well if I didn't mention it.
Thanks again for the help

Ok I understand, the reason for the poor quality image is that I am using a rca or s-video cable. The problem with that, and what's different from the D50 I assume, is that inputs for those connections on the 8110 aren't meant for displaying video. So, if I buy this RTC2200 contraption I'll be able to bypass those inputs and use a VGA to BNC breakout cable?

Yes I believe so. but you will limited to the max resolution of your source. DVD is only 480i unless you have an upscaling player which would help the image some more.

Huh, I just don't understand why the image looked so much better on the D50. What I am seeing now are lines of color alternating with black lines. You're sure I don't need some sort of line doubler?

Oh no, I am sure anyone on this forum would vomit upon walking into our theater, but I don't think it's bad. It certainly impresses people who see it, but they aren't video affectionados. Just using the 8110 today I can tell I am going to be able to go much more in depth with it, just because of the calibration advantages over the D50.

I am kind of under the gun with this because I talked up the 8110 so much to the guys I bought it with and now I feel like they're a bit underwhelmed. Luckily I think we've got a buyer for the D50 so there shouldn't be too much cash floating around overall.
