Last week I saw this ebay listing from avforsale for a Barco 808s with 153 hours. It was at $100 or so with about 4 days left... even without tubes I figured it's worth about 1k, so if it actually only had 153 it'd be a fantastic deal for anything under 1k.

But I had a huge work week, and forgot to put it on watch.

It went for $566.

*bang*

I'm not sure if I'd have gone over 5. But if the tubes were good I'd've been able to swap with my existing PJ and have another with *reasonably* good tubes. The tubes alone would go for a lot more than 500, IF they're not spot burned or something. Still, with 153 on the clock and an actual business doing the selling it seemed like a good bet...

Oh well. Not like what I've got sucks anyway.

Really low hour projectors are a real crapshoot: You either end up with something that's completely new and problem free or more likely: A projector that never really worked right, hence the reason the hours are so low.

If you can confirm that it was an unused backup unit in some commercial setup then it's a sweet deal. Hell, like you said, it's a great price just for the tubes assuming they're minty.

Yep. Nothing like a woman with minty tubes...

At any rate, I'm happy with what I've got PQ wise. This was interesting because it might've allowed an upgrade PLUS making some money!

That's priceless, John. Simply priceless. In fact, I've been working on some CRT tee shirt designs. Can I add that one to the list? It's friggin' hilarious.

Kal's right. I bought a G70 that turned out to be in that condition. Pristine snow white tubes, but it had a bunch of errors. I suspect maybe it was dropped or something (in the road case). Still, after a couple-hour tear-down pulling and re-seating everything I could get to and checking it all over from top to bottom, it seems to be good to go - I've put 10 hours or so on it without issue. But, I still have a nagging suspicion something will rear its ugly head when I least expect it. Like, right after I hang it on the ceiling or right before I have a meet or something. We'll see...

Hey, I'll give you another reason not to shoot yourself in the face. The winning bidder might have bid $1100. You may not have won it, anyway.

Put the gun down.

Yep, my (when I got it) 17700 hour PJ has been much less trouble than my older but less hours (<7000) PJ. Go figure.

It's actually much worse than that, the same seller also sold a spare brand NEW blue tube for that PJ for $26.

That's actually pretty funny , I thought you were going to show a hidden one bidder auction to rub it in . I never would have dreamed that the guy had to OUT BID the second guy who only would bid 25 bucks Smile

That was a deal and a half if it turns out to be new and works. It's a Sony tube for the 808S and very hard to find.

I have purchased from that guy in the past I got a bunch of new Barco parts including Sony Red and Blue tubes that were listed as new and were new for very cheap though not quite as cheap as that. Everything was as expected and worked.

I purchase from them every few months ,everything has been in great condition if not brand new. Fortunately I can just walk in and pickup saving lots in shipping. I just bought 2 extron cvc100 trancoders that work perfectly for 50.00 for both, They said that one would not pass a signal but when I picked them up one was set to component hdtv input and the other was set to a setting that is not used per the instructions on the back on the unit so I set it like the one that worked and what do you know! They work with 1080i component from blu-ray to rgbhv. Now just to find a really cheap hddvd player and I will be set for a while.
