Well, I'm off tonight to pick up that 9501LC... Hoping to do it in a turnaround (1500 miles, one driver )
I know that the sheet metal chassis covers only require a #2 phillips should I chose to remove and wrap them for transport, but what about the lenses? Long phillips like a PG, long hex (allen) wrench perhaps? Or maybe a long 1/4 drive with sockets?
(I'm planning to pack a toolkit because I'm unsure how to get the PJ out of the big RP chassis, but I want to be able to anticipate as much as possible to minimize time on-site.)

make sure you cover the lenses when you have the PJ in your car (you don't want the C-elements to melt

To remove the lenses you will need a long (12 inches) hex/allen key. I think it is 11/64"??? or maybe 13/64". I know that the size was not included in my standard hex key set.
Chris.

REALLY listen to this advice, its the most important thing for you to do. I had a single complete tube in the back of my car with the lens attached and didn't even think twice about covering the lens since I was just driving it home. Later I discovered that the sun had melted a nice little blob in the C element during my 45 minute trip.

so what you are saying is that these lenses are good to use in an emergency to start a fire in the event of power outages.

Yes, it takes under 30 seconds to melt the C element.

BTW, 8" lens caps will work as well, you just need to tape them in place.
