Can a 4000 hour M9000 with good tubes become better than a NEC XG-1352LC, if it gets modified by someone like MP or Eisemann?

yep. it's a relative easy job to convert it to a 9500.

Why would you want to bother ??
The XG1352LC is one of the best projectors made, VERY bright, VERY sharp(much sharper than any Marquee, stock vs. stock), high bandwidth, great in almost every respect.
IMHO, you'd be wasting a ton of dough to try and make a silk purse out of a sows ear, so to speak.
And if you want a 9500LC, why not just BUY one ?

Well, that's why I ask
I'm building a HT, so I actually haven't seen my NEC set up properly yet. I would like to go 9", but if the the difference is small, I don't want to bother.
The reason for the M9000, is that CRT's are not up for sale much more in Denmark, and very seldom 9". And when they are, they are very expensive compared to US prices. But there is a M9000 up for sale right now at a reasonable price, but if it can't be made to be better than my NEC, then I'll let it pass.

Well, it can be "made" to be better.... very slightly better, and at a HUGE expense...
I've owned a lot of crt projectors, and maybe I'm just not picky enough, but IMHO, the differences are very slight once you get to the highest level like the XG1352/9500LC/G90, et al.
I've seen a Barco 909, am very familiar with a great G90 I've setup a few times, and have owned several 9500LC's and PG10's, not to mention I've got a buddy with a Marquee that has been TOTALLY modded(beyond any commercial mods available...) again, its just my opinion, but I don't see the differences anywhere NEAR worth the expense, especially if you're paying someone to do the mod work.
Maybe, if you're doing it yourself as a hobby, and its only parts expense you have, and you get the satisfaction of doing the work yourself, maybe the small improvements to an already great image are worth while.
On the other hand, I need a green tube for my current XGLC, so maybe it IS a good idea to buy that Marquee and part out that crappy old XG1352LC you have....

$5000, and the green, but only green, is yours
Thank you for your help, I think I stick with my XG.
Morten.
