Well it looks like I might finally be getting my first HD-DVD player.

I found a HD-A2 on craigslist this morning for $50 with six movies, movies are Transformers, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Italian Job, The Hulk, U2 Rattle and Hum, and Troy.

Hopefully I will be going to pick it up this afternoon, at this price I'm really only looking at it for the movies because for $8.00 a movie anything in HD will look good and if I don't like it I shouldn't have too much trouble selling them at a small loss.

Went to Costco on Wednesday and they have a large stack of HD-D3's (maybe 30 units) for $129.99. I stood their thinking that someone might just buy one not knowing what events have taken place in Toshiba-land. I went back there today and there were none. I asked the person if they had a fire sale and he said, no, they pulled from inventory. What!?! Whatever.

I go into Fry's Electronics today and before leaving I stop buy the Blu-ray and HD DVD movie section. I see a lot of titles (maybe 25%) of the HD DVDs on sale for $14.99, but Transformers is tagged at $29.99. Some passes by the wife and I to get at the HD DVD movies and I comment to the wife, "I wonder how many HD DVD owners don't know about Toshiba throwing in the towel?"

Ten minutes later a very disturbed man let the store without buying an HD DVD movie he moments earlier held in his hand. H3ll, I did a better job anti-marketing HD DVD than Toshiba did. Mr. Green

On the way to breakfast this morning my wife amused me by allowing me to stop into my affluent Wall World. You know, the one with the rot iron carriage returns. Anyway, go into the electronics section and see all those wondering HDTV's. I also see Blu-ray and HD DVD movies, but once again not a single player to take the movie from disk to screen.

But that is not what I wanted to report. The fact that ever HD DVD movie was damn near list price was shocking. Why should I pay $30 for Transformers for a dying format when online is asking half this price? Oye, if only I had a jacka$$ neutralizer ...

There's a pretty good deal for the HD-DVD Planet Earth being sold by the Discover Channel Store on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Planet-Earth-4-DVD-Set-HD-DVD-for-HD-players-only_W0QQitemZ300201754235QQihZ020QQcategoryZ617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. However, be aware that this is the Americanized version narrated by Signorney Weaver, which is also said to be an hour shorter then the British version. Why - who knows?

Maybe Sigorney talks faster? Very Happy

I'd spend the extra and get Sir David.

I know, to think just because Walmart quit selling HD-DVD Toshiba threw in the towel I don't even think they were a player market.

Just for shits and grins just stopped by Best Buy today to see if they were offering any deals on HD-DVD's....Notta. They had a Star Trek TOS season one for "C note". But that was it, guess it will have to be Amazon or EBay, at least for now. The Planet Earth series looks temping, I just don't know if I would ever watch it.

Get it. The British version - you will not regret it. It's one of those things that can be watched over and over without losing your fascination with it.

I agree. Not only is it eye candy, but the contents is incredible. There's a reason why it's been constantly in the top 10 HD DVD/Blu-ray sales figures for a long time, even though it's expensive.

Is the British version any less pretentious than the American version in terms of written narration? To me, it acted like a big propaganda on Global Warming. A lot of the time I just wanted to turn the audio off.

Still, I think I'm going to pass on the deal. I'm waiting for someone to just give me a player and disks. Mr. Green

That one has the "Conservationist" Sigourney Weaver as the narrator. No wonder it sounds like propaganda for the Global warming clan.

hey give the guy a break, he's a noise-maker, not some kind of "big thinker" Laughing . You have to put things in perspective, the South East portion of the country is all about the bible, Jesus, creation, and pretty much just leaving all the worlds problems to God. All this talk about Global Warming and destruction of the environment is just a conspiarcy to get us all into a Toyota Prius.

Huh. I was going to recommend DeepDiscount.com, but it looks like their HD-DVD Planet Earth (BBC version) is $67! What's really weird is that their Blu-Ray Planet Earth is only $55!? That's only $1 more than the SD DVD version! By comparison, Amazon has the HD-DVD for $55 and the BD for $69! Strange. Looks like DeepDiscount is the place to get the BD version...

You can get it for $40-50 shipped on fleabay.
