Hi all,

My xg originally snapped the neck of the blue tube, before doing it it smelled hot.
I replaced the V-drive hoping that might correct the error, no luck. Connections are all good. I've reseated every thing on that board.
I'm not a tech by any means, but when I look on the back of the HV board I see resin coming out of some of the joints, don't know if it from production or if that's what was getting hot? Coming from tall blue things on the board (very technical) and the large heatsink.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Photo would help on the HV board but if you still have a FD error I suspect when the tube broke it could have discharged into the deflection yoke or it could have taken out the HV board. Did you take a good look at the deflection coil for possible cut windings or anything looking burnt on the inside of the yoke coil?

I have repaired these failures from the V drive and on one it took out the tube, deflection yoke and HV board. If the deflection yoke looks ok you might try pulling the blue anode lead from the splitter and see what happens but keep the lead clear of the splitter.

When the V drive fails it will superheat the tube right at the neck and bell so this may be what smelled hot. That or the HV board but usually that will fail in a instant. Also look at the underside of the deflection board where the blue yoke connects and see if it is discolored. Bummer. Doug

I glanced at the deflection yoke, maybe I'll give it a longer look, but the tube broke further up the bell almost out side the yoke I would think and not right at the neck and bell. So would it be the V drive then?

So if the V drive goes it can take out the HV board with it? and what does it tell you if I pull the blue anode lead and it does or doesn't throw the error code?

Its possible that it will crack the bell depending if your running a expanded raster or not. It may not have been the V drive because it will usually hit the top and bottom of the neck but hard to say. You should be able to look at the tube neck tape and see where it got hot.

As soon as it cracks the HV will go into shut down from the protect circuits. If it runs then the HV board is ok but then if the yoke is bad it will shut down also. Check over the connections again. If the HV board looks like it got hot I would suspect it, same with the deflection board. Curious as to what looked like resin coming out on the HV board unless its from the two larger caps. Doug

I reseated the connections on the HV board and it's not throwing an error code now, but the green lights up during intial startup then shut off, nothing lights up up after that. If I try to change inputs same thing, green lights up then goes off. I can see in the red tube just small pinpoints of light, but very scattered.

I'm afraid to leave it on too long that it might hurt another tube or something.

Curt suggested just mailing the HV board to him and go over it?

I agree not to take the chance but these will usually give a FD error. Doug
