To quote the article:
“Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We’ve listened to our customers, and we are responding."
Yeah right.

Dunn continued, “Best Buy has always believed that the customer will benefit from a widely-accepted single format that would offer advantages such as product compatibility and expanded content choices. Because we believe that Blu-ray is fast emerging as that single format, we have decided to focus on Blu-ray products.”

Product compatibility? Is that in reference to older Blu-ray standalone players not being compatible with Profile 2.0 features? Oh, right, buy a game console to play your movies. Expanded content choices? Yes, Blu-ray has 3 times the studio support of HD DVD right now, though oddly enough it doesn't have 3 times the quantity, quality, or diversity of titles available, at least not yet. HD DVD still has exclusive studios. Oh well, Amazon.com and the Internet in general is the better place to buy media anyway, assuming you have a little patience with shipping time.

Yeah right. |
Or, maybe something like, "We received a check from Sony for umteen-million dollars to make this statement".
Sucks.

I went to Best Buy in the US a year ago and asked to see an HD-DVD demo. He took me to a Bluray player. I said "No not bluray EHSH DEEE DE VEE DEE. He said "Oh they are the same thing"
I love uninformed sales people. I gree though. They push Bluray because they can make more money on the players.

Bingo! ignorant masses = high profit. This is a direct correlation and what drives the western business model (and BB). It's a self-fulfiling ecosystem of stupid/lazy people feeding greedy business people. Don't expect this to end soon.
the bad news is if you are not a greedy business people but you are a somewhat infomed and motivated people then you see how much you are getting ripped off! So much in fact you try to be either greedy or stupid/lazy.

Consumers are like cows. Just stop making trouble, eat some hay, and walk slowly into the slaughterhouse. Mooo!
