Hi
I just bought a Sony 1030 (Havent pick it up yet) and I would like to know if It can handle Progressive scan if i select it on my DVD player.
According to Curts write up on the Sony, the 1030 does 26 Khz compared to my Sony 1001 which does 15Khz and will not show a pic if i select Progressive scan.

Yes, however you need to use the RGB input on the front of the projector. Composite video only does 480i maximum. If your DVD player doesn't output VGA, then you need a transcoder to convert to VGA. You will also need a negative sync or sync on green signal for the 1030. So if the transcoder doesn't output either, youll need a convertor. Finally, if you don't already have one, you will need an adapter cable to convert from the 1030's RGB input to either VGA or RGBHV(or RGBs). See here if you need more help:

The 1030 has a 21 pin Scart input and I have a DVD player with a 21 pin scart output that outputs RGB
(not Component) so are you saying that i will be able to select Progressive scan on my dvd player using this set up, will I have to connect the composite as well for Sync?
I am in Australia so my dvds will be in PAL, still OK?.

I Just picked up the 1030QM and I am having a look now.
I notice that this has SD 130G Tubes, Where are they on the Tube ladder compared to the SD 187 and 07MS?
The tubes are as new no marks at all but I am not getting a bright Pic at all shinning on a 6ft wide 2.5 gain draper screen compared to my 1001. does this sound about right for the 1030?
If it is can they be swapped over without any modifications for a set of Sony 07MS tubes that I have lying around.

What do theses numbers mean?
500,999 and below = 26kHz max scan rate (480i).
501,000 and above = 32kHz max scan rate (safe for 640x480p VGA)
Are they serial numbers.

Yes, if your serial number starts with 501 or higher you have the better 32khz version.

The SD-130 tubes are the least bright out of those and the SD-187 and 07MS, SD-130 are rated 300 lumens, SD-187 are rated 600 lumens, not sure about the 07MS.

The SD-130 tubes that you have may have low emission from a previous owner having the PJ display a black screen when they weren't using it instead of switching it off.

If it is possible to change the 1030 SD130 tubes for a set of 07ms tubes?
I am asking this because i have a spare set of 07MS tubes and I am either going to replace the burnt ones in my 1001 or if it is possible put them in the 1030. which is the better CRT?
I have the 1030 that has 26kHz max scan rate.

The 1030 is the better PJ and as far as I know the SD-130, SD-187 and 07MS are all interchangeable, there was a thread on this forum a while back that explained this so try searching for those tube types to make sure what I have said is right.
