I am following Curt's guide to the T to set up this new Runco 991 (actually an NEC XG), got to the scheimpflug adjust and realized, there are no knobs for it! Check the attached image. Is this normal for the Runco? If so, what do I do? The image is very soft on the edges when the mounting screws for the lenses are tightened all the way.

Can't tell from your picture, but there should be two tabs sticking out of that slot. Your manual should tell you where to set them based on your screen size. Pretty simple if you have a normal sized screen.

But if the Scheimpflug is wrong, it will generally be soft at one side or the other. If ALL the edges are soft, then have you checked the edge focus? You know there are two focus adjustments on the lenses, for center and for edges?

Nope, not on that one. Runco took off the HD 144s and put on HD8s. THe large flat slot screws on the front of the lenses are the continuous Scheimpflug adjustments. It's actually one Runco 'improvement' that gets my stamp of approval..Smile

No kidding...that does sound nice....I think the tabs are lame as hell.

Ahh, I see, sorta Smile. So how do these work? It seems that the 2 slot screws at the top do not move, or are just really really tight because I can't loosen them. I didn't try to force them loose or anything. Loosing the bottom ones seems to solve most of the softness issue but not completely.

On another note, any Idea why I seem to loose convergence whenever I shut the set off and power it up the next day. It is storing the settings so I know thats not the problem.
