Okay, I was in the video, scalers section and I know this is the right section for this.
Here it goes. I am trying to get HD into my home theater.
I just got HD satellite and bought a HD Fury to plug into my Passthrough on my Centerstage CS-HD. The 3 colors are no longer aligned and everything looks all screwed up. I can't afford to send the original guy out to set it all up. He wants $675 and I can't swing that right now.
Can someone help me? I need to get into the service mode and I have never done that before. I have been messing with the projector without being in the service mode. I think I made it worse, so I think I just want to start over and get it all back to good once and for all.
Here is what I have hooked up to my Centerstage.
Yamaha DVD componet into Centerstage componet.
Laser disc hooked into my Proceed AVP and S video going into S video on Centerstage. (Only hooked up to use my on screen display for my Proceed)
HD satellite out to HD FURY into the VGA passthrough on the centerstage.
I also have my Wii hooked up with a composite video into my Centerstage.
If I ever get a great picture to my projector and I fall back in love with it; I will add blu-ray. For right now I would be happy with being able to watch HD in my home theater.

So there was a thread about this in a different forum here and I think that the following is all true:
(a) The projector has never been set up to display a 1080i/60 signal
(b) Andy doesn't know how to do this
Not really sure what the tell you Andy. Nobody can walk you through setting up and converging your CRT projector really.
What resolutions do you use now? In other words, what resolutions have been set up for you?
Another option is to get a local person to swing by and help you out for a few hours. Some will do it for the price of a few beers. Where exactly is "Queen Creek"?
The other option is to download the manual (available on this site) and start reading and do it yourself. It's not that hard. If you don't have time to do this, well, you're starting to understand a bit more why someone charges $675 for this knowledge.

Thanks Kal, I have the manual on disc. I just need to read it.
Queen Creek is about 40 minutes southeast of Phoenix AZ.
I think everything was setup for 720P.

Welcome,
The G70 really isn't that hard to setup once you read the manual thoroughly, do you have the install manual? If not get it and read it front to back before you start messing with anything.
The G70 is the third CRT projector that I've owned and when I got mine it threw me off as the controls are way different than the Marquee that I had before. Luckily all of the physical installation has been done for you so everything you have to do can be done with the remote.
Good Luck,
Erik

Andy... Can you call your old setup guy? Might be worth spending a hundy or two to have the guy come out and do some nice clean setups for you at 1080i. The G70 is a hell of a machine, and unless you're confident (and practiced/experienced) in your setup skills, it might make sense to get some help - not because you can't do it (most of us are DIY'ers here), but to get the most possible out of your G70 in short order.
Of course, if you want to learn how to do the setup yourself, then go for it. That's what most of us here do. Ask away!

Might just set up the HDSTB to put out a forced 720P until you can sort it out. Doug

I think I have the install manual. I will read it tonight when I get home.
I will probably mess with it and see what I can do. After that, well, I will just have to see.

Me, too. If my grandparents still had their home in Sun Lakes, I could buzz right over. I get down to my folks' house in Saddlebrooke once in awhile, but I probably won't make it this spring.
You can do it, Andy. Read the process through a couple of times until it makes sense. Not having to mess with optical or electronic focus will make things much faster and easier. You're basically just doing geometry and convergence.
If you're not happy with the results, there have to be a couple of non-pros in the valley that would be willing to help you out, and there's always the pro option.

Everyone else is saying to re-converge the projector to 1080i but if the PJ is setup for 720P then all his other sources will be screwed up. I know there's different memory blocks for this but unlkess Andy figures those out he might wind up with more problems than he started with.
BTW, $675. to setup one new memeory block with converegence is pretty steep. I think a couple of hundred bucks would be more realistic if you can find someone else.

Wow, I didn't notice that. "Pretty steep" is an understatement. If you went CRAZY and did a full setup from factory defaults, someone who knows what they're doing should be able to set up a couple of resolutions in 2-3 hours, assuming no other major system configuration or physical setup. Figuring 2-3 hours, that's over $200-300/hour (not including travel). That sounds more like a rip-off than 'pretty steep'.

This would depend on how it was set up and if 1080I would have edge ringing where the raster or timing may need to be moved. You never know anymore what the phase and porches are doing from one source to the other. HDMI has pretty much changed rules and just not in the analog displays. HDSTB's are all over the place on what they are putting out.
You pretty much need all the sources there and running with handshakes before even starting to see what you have to work with. The 'one source' to set up can change all of them. Moving the raster is redoing the mechanical astig. Doug

Andy,
Half the fun of owning a CRT PJ is tweaking on it. It doesn't sound like you much about your G70. It would be time well spent to learn how to dial it in. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks everyone. I will try to learn the manual and fiddle with it. If I screw it up, I'll either hire a pro or sell it. I'll be the only dork with a home theater watching a crappy little 60 inch from 20 feet away.
I am afraid of this becoming a money pit. I know if I get it dialed in then I will want to replace the blue and green tubes because there is some burn-in from it being originally set up as 4:3 and now it 16:9. Then I will have to do this all over again.

Do you have burn or wear, wear is usually easier to deal with than burn. Wear (even wear) is a large area all burned uniformly, if you have wear like this you should be able to run your 16:9 within the existing pattern. Burn is caused by static images and is like the windows taskbar burned into the blue tube.
Take your time and refer to the manual whenever you are unsure.
I've had my G70 about 6 monthes and I'm sure it could still be set up much better, but then again I never read the manual.
(cause men don't need no steenkin manual )

I think it is wear from being set up as a 4:3 setting. It seems very even when I look at it. I will look at the manual (only cause I have too) to see how to project the 16:9 through the 4:3 area because I had no idea you could do that.

If the wear is wide and even it should be easy to project from within the wear.
However if the wear is narrow it won't be worth it as you will lose resolution and the tubes will wear faster. I'm just guessing the wear is wide as 4:3 is the aspect ratio of CRT tubes and properly setup the 4:3 wear will fill the tubeface right and allow you to easily setup 16:9 within the area.

Erik,
How does one learn how to access and use Key Balance and Pin Balance without reading the manual? It took me a while to understand them AFTER reading the manual.
Actually, those are G70 adjustments that some owners probably don't know about. They're hidden unless you have prior knowledge of them.

Many find it fun, including me!
