This time last year we were getting ready to move to a new home and I upgraded from my trusty old D50 to a G90 (new place had a much bigger space to build out a theater).

Since then the little D50 has just sat quietly. I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do with it. I bought it for $1100 about six years ago, put $1500 in new tubes into it about five years ago and enjoyed it very much. It has 6046 hours on the chassis and 2711 hours on the tubes, but I ran it at like 50 contrast and it shows absolutely no wear. These days a 7" LC ES set just doesnt seem to have much value, especially with shipping.

Is there any market for parting it out? I put an ad out on our local craigslist for $300, but am not that optimistic about really selling it that way. It seems like a shame to just junk it, it does still work fine and for 1080i or 720p it does look very good.

Any suggestions on what to do with what seems like its become a big paperweight?

should give it to one of your friends and let them enjoy it. It doesn't seem your deperate about the money and the d50 is a good starter.

This has come up a few times before - people with decent projectors, but with little or no value who obviously don't want to just junk it. What to do, though? Perhaps there's a small church, community center, Boys' Club, etc. that would love to have a 'movie room'. Of course, you'd probably have to donate your time to set it up and possibly build a Wilsonart screen or something, but it probably wouldn't go unappreciated if you found the right organization. Unlike a digital, it probably wouldn't cost them a $300 bulb inside of a year or two, either to keep it going. Put a label on it with Curt's website for down the road if trouble pops up.

Just an idea.

Don't you have a room for your kids to set it in for them to play or watch cartoons? Even though I have a G70 and it's noticeably better than a D50 I still very much love my D50 .......Compact and easy to set up....nice picture....Poor little thing it's a pity to waste it....Make a good use of it whether you keep it or give it away....

Uh... crating and shipping to San Antonio? Might be cheaper to find one locally.... There are quite a few that show up on craigslist around here.

I actually got two calls today from the craigslist ad, which was kind of a suprise. And there were several people who PM'd me form this post. More interest than I would have thought.

So I think I'll see if I can find someone to buy it locally over the next two weeks.

If not, then its kind of a toss up. From the response of a few people its clear that the tubes themselves are worth a few hundred dollars at least and a couple of the other components would also move. But I think it might be an easier thing emotionally to just give it away rather than part it out and recycle the rest.

I'll let you guys know how it goes...

Excellent! I'm always happy to hear of a nice machine staying intact instead of getting parted out. I know sometimes the parts go to get other machines working, and when a machine is already broken in some way, it makes sense to part it out.... I just hate the thought of dismantling a perfectly good working one.

Funny how this ad for a projector for sale was allowed when others aren't...

It would be nice to have an "approved" projector "For Sale" section...instead of these backhanded "for sale" threads, or have the rule of no projector sales enforced equally...

Tsk, tsk! Violating forum rules!

My D50 is serving as a beater projector in my basement for Xbox 360, and thanks to $100 players, HD DVD as well. Too bad HD DVD looks more like DVD on a D50. Ah well. Xbox 360 is a blast on it! The component input on the D50 is very handy! Not many CRT projectors have built-in component video input. I'm using a stereo A/V switch to switch between component video from the Xbox 360 and the HD-A1.
