I know this is off topic but I'm considering purchasing a set of Klipschorns from the US and getting them to shipped to me in Western Canada Mr. Green

They are heavy about 165lbs a piece and I figure this would be the place to get some help. The seller is in the Western States, what freight company should I ship with??? Also how do import taxes work with freight companies, do they charge a ridiculous brokerage fee like ups and fedex???

Also are there any other things to watch out for???

Question

yeah, keep the volume at least two notches below "11" Smile

see if your company would allow you to ship through them. most companies have a brokerage set up with rates lower than what "johnny off the street" pays. or consider getting them sent to a stateside border location and then driving down to bring them across yourself. probably no duty, no brokerage fees to yourself, so only taxes on what you paid for them.

If you have someone right across the border that you can get them shipped to and then pick up, that will be a lot cheaper than shipping cross-border. If you can't do that, then you need to find yourself a customs broker, DO NOT use in house brokers from FedEx or UPS, you'll get raked over the coals.

where in western Canada? I have used a company in Sumas Wa. for years ( you could almost hit the building they are in if you threw a baseball from the border crossing at Abbotsford!!) they charge a nominal fee to recieve parcels and about 10$ to recieve and hold a pallet do a web search for "Ship Happens" in Sumas Wa.
I have had items shipped up to me but the charges on non-account shipping are insane,so with big items I usually drive over and clear them myself.

Jask, thanks for the tip.
Would anyone know of a similar operation several hundred km east of there; eastern BC or Alberta?

I'm in Alberta right by Emonton. I just don't have the time to drive too far away to pick anything up. Edmonton would be ok. I really want a set of these speakers but around here there isn't too much for sale in the vintage market and them being giants doesn't make it easy for shipping. There are a few trucking companies that run from the US to Canadian major cities. I'm planning to call them to see what they charge and if they have their own in house brokerage. And yeah UPS and FEDEX are pure evil when it comes to brokerage fee's. I've been burned a few times Evil or Very Mad

another option in that price range is to have a set built. The cabinet plans are out on the net and it is not too hard to find an experienced cabinet builder.
