For those that have upgraded, aside from Gamma correction, is there a big difference in picture quality with the newer cards?

the new card support more mode of video, like 422 444 mode, and 16-235 color range, longer cable length...etc!

Moome, what does that mean in practical terms when I am feeding it a signal from a HD DVD player etc?

One more question, will it take a 1080p signal from a HD-A30 HD DVD player over DVI?

Thx Moome, I tried it with A30 tonight, and it connected no problem. But the image was bad, due to the fact that I can't control the porches etc so it was wrapped around on itself and other weird things. This is more to do with the XG than anything else. If I used a HTPC I can get rid of all of that.
But to early for a HTPC for HD Media right now. Still to problematic & costly.

Hi Moome, I gave the A30 back. Perhaps someone else can try it, I am sure all XG's will exibit this with the DVI card and 1080P

No, I'll update tonight if I can. But it exhibited this behavior on the Component inputs as well, where I imagine there is no EDID interaction for obvious reasons.

Moome was your DVI card 1080i only due to the chip that was used.
I do not think that your DVI cards can do 1080p.

the DVI card use the same chip as HDfury, it sure support 1080P, i have test many with my XA2 and PS3,
no problem at all, yours dvi card may need new edid to support that, old edid support 1080i only!

Does someone have a FAQ on how to update the EDID with a PC, flashing software and the new EDID file?

I need to correct myself. I never tested this on component, as the player did not pass the 1080p signal over component for obvious reasons. So, I'll flash the EDID and get another A30 to test

HMMM!!!! It's significantly less sharp than the HDFury & RTC2000 combo. Did anything change with your setup? Can you redo the HDFury & RTC2000 test? Maybe even the HDFury alone, if possible? The EXT-HD should be sharper.
I may redo shots of both boxes in the future, but the purpose here wasn't to compare the two. I mentioned above that the last screenshot seems overly soft. I even took it 3 times because I *knew* someone would ask. Smile I doesn't look that soft in real life. In fact the HDfury and EXT-HD look pretty much the same in terms of sharpness to me, but I'll leave that sort of comparison to someone equipped to do better side by side tests.
Kal
What's the real gain then here, i believe Moome has stated that his old PWC-M2005A is equal to the HD fury (except for hdmi convenience of the EXT HD)
Could it be that the (price) difference in parts of the new VIM HD and the EXT-HD led to a lesser/softer picture, and then tried to compensate this with some extra EE sharpness?
