Heywood Jablome gave me his HD DVDplayer and Moome ISS card to try out. 1080I looked fine and the memory location I have for Directv HD and the HD DVD were bang on. When I try to set it up for 1080P, the image is way dark like the brightness and contrast is turned way down but that's not the case. What is the "EDID" problem and what does it effect. I can set up 1080P with my test pattern generator with no problem.

Chip, did the card already have an updated EDID chip (just asking)?

Chip,
There was one update done but I'm unsure if it affects 1080P. It corrected handshakes with the newer combo players that came out. Have you phased the new signal 1080P entry? Wasn't Cliff passing 1080P through his or was he deinterlacing 1080I? Doug

The ISS input card is bone stock, no upgrade EDID, from the first production run of cards. I (jtnfoley@AVS) was second on the list chartering the cards IIRC.

Thanks for the update. My card is from that same batch Smile
Do you happen to have tested it with a PS3 as well?

Watched 'The 300' in its' entirety on a PS3 (BlueRay 1080i via HDMI) with great success. My 9PG Xtra is not really good for 1080p (which is why Chips' got the player currently!)

Hey doug, I wonder if this problem could relate to our recent findings?

Marc

None of my 3 Output cards have any bad caps, but mine are all all 6020 generation cards.

I'll be headed out to the laboratory where dangling wires are plentifull. Twisted Evil There I have two mutated AmPros to poke and prod as I see fit. One thing I missed when trying this the other night on my main PJ is 48[code] "toggle black level clamp point". This changes the clamp point from back porch to sync tip. Default is back porch. I'm not sure if this will solve my dark image but it's worth a try. Also as Doug suggested to me, I'll try increasing the "DB" switch on the ISS output card from "flat to +6db".

Chip expect an email this weekend for an ampro module, I think I finally have enough time to finish it, or atleast close enough for it to work for you.

It's working now with everything but feedback . There's so many buttons for the AmPro, I'll have to make page 3 just for feedback. It will be nice to turn off OSD Thanks ever sooo much.

OK, back on track. I have solved the dark image problem buy changing the black level clamp from back porch to sync tip. Now I have a super bright picture. This is on the mutated 3600HD that I have. This is the one that I have reported and jtnfoley has seen resolve 1080P. I have it cranking out 1080P right now with only a 30 minute setup and it looks awsome.
I am however seeing that clipping off of the left edge of the image. I will tackle that next. Prefectly resolved 1080P from a "POS" stock 8 inch AmPro. Who would have thought Laughing

Still have not solved the left hand clipping off issue, but it's only happening on one of my AmPros. I am seeing another problem which is only seen at 1080P and only at certain times. I have never seen "streaking" on any of my AmPro's. I've seen pictures of the streaking that occures on a Sony 1292 and it's my understading that it's a issue with it not being able to shut off the beam quick enough, resulting in a bright streak from that point on the tube face to the edge. What I'm seeing is the exact opposite, a dark streak like it's not coming back on quick enough. Not ever having to deal with this before, I've not paid too much attention to it. I think I need someone to better define the following terms for me,

1. Streaking

2. Smearing

This issue is only seen in high contrast, a light background with a dark object. A dark streak off the dark object.
I am otherwise resolving 1080P just fine.
