|
|
Not everyone has bought into the LCD, LCoS, PDP, DLP, OLED, X, Y, or Z fixed pixel display world, but I am curious as to how many CRTers out there do have digital displays in their home, of what kind, and for what sources. This does not including computer displays, although I feel the industry is tacking an ATSC tuner to a lot of $150 LCD computer monitors and calling them televisions.

Well,
This laptop has a LCD screen but you said not to include that. My cordless phones and cell phones and PDA have LCD screens. Sometimes the kids will watch movies on the laptop or portable DVD player which also has an LCD screen.

One on my cell phone, 12-segment LED on my microwave (hey, it's not a computer), various single-LED indicators (the very definition of a digital display!) on TVs, computers, etc - hell, an awful lot on my CRT projectors!
OK. I also have a BenQ PB6200, a Mitsubishi HC3-colorview, an old Pioneer D-ILA projector, a Proxima overhead projection panel (now THAT'S vintage!)...
I like digitals for the same reason I like CRTs - they're really cool technology. I mean, how freaking cool is it to have a little box that'll put an image somewhere? I've used them to do light painting on things to photograph, show big radar images in my office, make a coffee table whose surface is a display... there's a lot of things little projectors can do.
What I don't do with them is watch movies!

I have owned:
Four working AmPro light valve projectors. Two parts units and many spare parts for them. This was very profitable.
One AmPro 300 LCD projector. Made a very nice profit on it! 1280x1024 resolution.
Two working 3-chip DLP projectors, 800x600 resolution. Both of them died and were sold as parts.
About nine Marquees. Some were parted out, others were sold to others, and I kept one for myself.
I use the Marquee. No digital or other projector had the reliability or picture quality I need for a home theater projector,
and the biggest machines would require industrial strength installations anyway.
With my 9500LC having under 300 hours on new tubes, I'm not even THINKING about replacing it with
any other projector. I fully expect that several complete generations of digitals will come and go and I'll
still be perfectly happy to stay where I'm at. I've already GOT a world class picture! You almost CAN'T
sell me a better picture at any price!

BarcoData 5000 that I picked up for next to nothing (the 800-series compatible remote was worth the trip!) which has proven too bright for my rear-projection front yard theater for Halloween and Christmas, and an Ampro light valve that I got from Chip (stefuel) that I will probably never touch again. (Too may projects and hobbies.)

I have two working Ampro 5200s. They are DLP units. I am planning on doing backyard theater with one and keep the other as a backup.

Slightly OT: Ragarding backyard theater... Chip and I have found that rip-stop nylon tent material (also available as "shower curtain lining") makes a pretty serviceable RP screen for outdoor use.
My Barco 5000 proved WAY too bright, tho (altho it did cause a really trippy starburst-like hotspot!)

New Whirlpool range, new LG fridge, and a converted & modified RV type 17" LCD display mounted on the wall in the HT bathroom (fed by baluns). Hitachi 51" RPTV in livingroom and 3 or 4 CRT TV's in the other rooms.
Oh...and a couple thermometers...mouth, ear, and a CharBroil wireless thermometer for the grill. All with displays.
FORMER owner of a Sony HS10.

Guys, I cannot be the only person to have displays in more than one room. As such, I cannot accommodate a CRT projector in every room. As such, I have an RPTV in one room, a flat-panel in another, but neither of these are critical environment so it would be silly to create more bat caves to benefit from a CRT front projection setup.
I just that it would be interesting to see if anyone had an RPTV (DLP, LCoS, LCD) or flat-Panel (Plasma, LCD, OLED). But, I guess most do not. BTW, noticed I never mentioned digital projection/projector as this wasn't about a front project query.

I have a mobile phone.
I had a laptop, but I gave it away.
I have to admit I have displays in more than one room, I don't watch TV on the projector. A CRT projector in one room, and a 1080i (at 100hz!) capable 76cm widescreen CRT tv in the other - I got it for $200.

Well, at least a couple of you had the courage to admit it. I have a 42" LCD in the family room (the modern day boob-tube), but I play console gaming on a 65" CRT-based RPTV.

Why would you invest $1299 in a LCD 46" RPTV when BB and CC had been selling Sony 50" SXRD (LCoS) of the same 1080P goodness for $1499?

We have a 50" Plasma in the living room so the wife can watch her programs in HDTV. She doesn't like to fire up the downstairs theater (8501 Electrohome) just to watch TV.
