Sorry to keep posting with this panicky stuff, but I don't know yet how to tell the difference between a critical problem and a not so big a deal problem, and I don't want to damage anything by continuing to run when I shouldn't.

I did a full initialization on my 8500, and when it came back up each tube had a small bright dot in exactly the same spot, about an inch up from the bottom of the tube and maybe 3/4" to the left of center. (Ceiling mounted, if that matters. Scans have been reversed already.)

I could say it looks exactly like a stuck pixel on a panel display. (But I won't say that, because someone might throw something at me. Wink

When I have a solid pattern up, there is a line of lighter color that runs up vertically from the position of the dot.

Is this trouble, or no big deal that will go away when I complete the setup, or something in between?

Thank you.

this is normal on a marquee that hasn't has the Christy digital "dot fix" done to it. It's on Curt's site under "downloads" . This is a very tricky one to do, like soldering 2 grains of uncooked rice together.

If this helps, the dots, which are brighter than the regular setup pattern and menus, get dimmer if I turn contrast up. Blue most, eventually disappearing at moderately high contrast, green next at close to max, and red dims but never goes away entirely.

When I turn brightness down, the dots disappear in the same order, including the red never completely disappearing, and they persist long after the pattern is invisible.

Oh, great, thanks. As long as it isn't something I have to worry about causing damage.
