|
|
Hello everyone!
I've tried to find this info several times over the last ten years or more, but never had any success. The closest I've ever come was finding a post on a forum from somebody claiming to have it, dating back to 1997, or so ... but I could never locate that person.
Does anybody have any knowledge of the protocol used to control the Sony 12xx CRT's via their RS-422 serial ports???
Thanks,
Paul

Let me see what I can find. I'm pretty sure I scrounged it up at one point so I could program it into my AMX controller. Between four different computers and maybe a couple of archive DVDs, I should have it around here somewhere.

I have this one but not sure if it will work with the 12XX series. But the fun is trying, right!

Believe it or not, the fellow that I'd tried to locate years ago, who'd mentioned this document in an old, archived AVSForum post ... well, I found him this time, contacted him, he HAS the manual in hand, and will scan it on Monday.

Last time I looked for him, his website was not responding.

Any suggestions on a windows-based program to use to organize/transmit these commands?

Girder, of course.

I'll write a driver for it in LUA, and when I'm done, I'll upload it to the Girder site.

Anyone else see the irony in this post? ^

I see "lostboy" hasn't come through with the RSM-1270 manual, yet. I still can't find whatever it was I had around. I'm sure it's on some damn archive CD somewhere.
I did find a post somewhere while digging around on the web that said that many of the common commands on the D50/G70/G90 machines should use the same commands as the 12xx series. Obviously there are commands on one that won't do anything on the other, but the point was that the typical stuff - power, input a/b/video, pic mute, etc. should be the same. How does that help? A) The manual posted above should have some working strings in it, and B) this:
PJSerialComm...
http://www.sony.ca/projectors/support.htm
It's a nice little app Sony wrote for automagically building the command strings. Nice! It's a simple point/click interface, and you can save out a list of command strings with comments to a text file. A few of the strings I tested matched what I got by hand using the above-mentioned manual. The app also taps the serial port for live testing. I couldn't try it because I don't have an RS-232/422 converter. If you have a converter, try it and tell me if it works so I can start plugging the strings into my AMX controller for testing... would ya?

Yes, I forgot to mention that I did try PJSerialComm, set for G90, with a USB<->RS422 adapter (pricey!) and had no luck at all.

Curious: What can you actually do with the PC controller setup for the 12xx?

Awesome! Thanks for posting and please pass along my thanks to 'lostboy'. I'll try to crank out a basic script on my AMX controller to see how it works.

Automation, primarily. In my case, script in my AMX controller will be able to power the projector on and off, switch inputs, pic mute, etc.... You could do it with IR, but serial is faster and more reliable because it isn't susceptible to interference with conflicting IR or other interference. Most important, the communication is two-way. That's not important for the projector, but will be crucial for instance, with my surround receiver.
With the AMX controller, I'll have one button that will fire up the whole system and another that will shut it down. It's like a macro in a Harmony, only even more powerful. I'll also have a 12v trigger latched to the 1271 so that if the projector is on, so will the hushbox fan.
