I bought a Global Cach'e ir learner. In the limited instruction sheet it says "The CG-IRL learner utility automatically copies the output string to the Windows clipboard, where it can easily be pasted (CTRL-V) into a spreadsheet and saved for later reference." Try as I will, I cannot seem to locate this "Windows clipboard".

Control C will copy "selected" content directly into the clipboard.

Control V will paste that cotnent into a selected target/destination field

The clipboard is a buffer used to save/copy temporary data. There are some utilities which enable you to populate the clipboard with more than one entry but usually people just use the one.

Good luck

the clipboard is a virtual thing.
you cannot "find it"
there are tools and utilities to let you see its contents and even make several so that you can copy and save 10 or even more things.
the default is one buffer of saved data. first in first out.

Actually you can.

The file is clipbrd.exe and clipsvr.exe under XP and found under system32.

clipbrd.exe is an app you can launch that contains the contents of clipboard.

The upshot of this is that the info you need is already there - just do like it says and use ctrl-v to stick the info it automatically copied to the clipboard where you want it.

Open your spreadsheet and do a 'paste' command after you have done the "copy to clipboard". THe string should apear in the field you selected.

If you want to keep the info for later use you could possibly create a notepad or word document and paste the clipboard contents into that.

The program says it is for use in a spreadsheet document so maybe using MS Excel or Open Office would be better for saving it as an easy to access file that won't disappear when you shut down Windows.

If you ever need the info again you can just open that document and copy and paste it using clipboard.

Thanks guys. Now it's all clear to me. What I was trying to do is "cheap out" from buying a Crestron IR Learner. They are $$$ and I only need to do a few remotes. Crestron re-badges one of the Pronto's for a wireless remote. As such can convert .ccf ir codes to Crestron ir codes. I found this Global Cach'e ir learner that can collect ir and save to .ccf format. Now that I understand how "clipboard" works, I have found that I can "paste" directly to the Crestron ir utility (Deal) and make it work. This has saved me hundreds$$ Smile

I can't even remember what I had for lunch so that little tidbit of information came in handy. The IR capture device works slick. All I have to do is capture in .ccf and paste directly into Crestrons DEAL and it's done. It's really neat being able to run both programs side by side on this widescreen monitor. I was not sure I was going to like this 24" LG flat screen monitor. Now I don't think I could live without it. Very Happy
