...I just bought a Ampro 3600 projector  What do you think, good choice?  As there are nearly no Ampro owners in the german CRT forum (beisammen.de) I will probably bother you with some questions about these machines in the future...

I don't have it yet, but it should be perfectly working. Tubes are quite good for what I paid (350€+shipping), Green has some wear,but should still be useable. Blue has only very little wear, red has no wear. Really looking forward to the set! This should be quite a big step up from my sony 1030

I've seen with mine own eyes a 3600 resolve (granted, near the center) ACTUALLY RESOLVE one-on one-off lines at 1080p48. It will be a MAJOR step up from a 1030!
Just pay attention to the Ampro experts that are sure ti chime in regarding power supply health... IIRC that was the downfall of Ampro among serious CRT HT folks.

I was waiting for Pete to chime in first as he is the resident expert. You will do well to follow his lead as children of the corn seldom lie.  On a more serious note, I hope you also got the factory wired remote and owners manual. The projector is useless without the remote or PC control software. An undrestanding of the "CODE" structure needs to be studied in order to gain control of the beastie. When it arrives, the first thing you should do is make sure the three fan filters and grates are removed as they plug up quick and cause overheating. There is one on the back at the power supply and two on the bottom. If they are still there, in the trash they go, never to be seen again. You will also need a special tool to adjust the lenses with. It is a 5/16 ball driver. I think a 10MM driver will work but I've not tried it. I suggest setting it up on a wheeled cart so you can experiment with screen size and projector distance. You will need the manual to explain the scan reversal procedure if it was set up for something other than table mount projection. I suggest setting it up for the first time with a easy resolution for the projector to handle like 800X600. Then as you get used to the setup of the projector move onto higher resolutions. All you need to do to get started is point it at a white wall about ten feet back, connect it to a source, turn it on and press "HELP". Focus the green tube so that you can read the menu and follow the instructions. Don't try for 960P or 1080P right off the bat. You will run into trouble. Keep the projector clean on the inside, especially the SMPS (low voltage power supply). You can pull it right out by loosening the 4 philips head screws on the sides and pull it straight up (with the power off and un-plugged). It fills with dust fast and needs to be cleaned often.

Wow, I didn't expect to be able to display _real_ 1080p with the set. This sounds great!

Yes, I will get the wired one with the display on it, I guess this is the right one? I know that setting this machine up won't be easy, I'm planning to use a free weekend to learn how to setup it, I will follow your advice.

No, that heatsink is NOT stock.. What is bolted to it? The convergence heatsink? Very strange...
The green tube could use replacing, but for the price it will blow the 1030 away. Good score!

I have no idea what the heatsink is good for, I will post here when I receive the set. I will try out how much the green tube will affect the picture when watching a movie (it will definitely be visible when displaying a white image) and then decide if I can still use it.

I can hear Pete all the way over here. He's yelling "Photo shop, photo shop. Somebody did a great job adding the tube wear effect to that projector. Everyone knows there isn't a AmPro alive that will run long enough to put that kind of wear on those tubes"
