|

Everytime I have seen a commercial that has Blu-ray in it it ALWAYS says:
"Available on DVD and Blu-ray Hidef!"
I thought people were saying that Blu-ray's name was better because people won't confuse it with DVD, but perhaps it is also not indicating to people that it is indeed high definition.
HD-DVD or Blu-ray?

I believe this is the 2/3rds rule in effect.
2 out of 3 americans are clinically stupid. If you dont say hi def they probably will ask, "whats the difference between bluray and my regular dvd?"

At the blendzilla meet, William's wife kept calling it "blu-tooth", confusing the new-fangled HDM with the new-fangled wireless

That is my point. Avid blu-ray supporters have said that Blu-ray is better since it is different than the term DVD, so it can't possibly be confused with DVD.
However HD-DVD supporters will claim that the only way people know it is HD is if it has the term HD in it!
Although maybe all of this HD marketing mayhem has had a wicked backlash that people are no longer assuming that the term HD actually means high definition.
I mean, I think they sell Tide HD detergent!

"CRT Tide - now with deeper blacks!"
I'd buy it. It would be better than the competition but it would only come in fifty-five gallon drums.

When I was the mod at the AVF BD & HD players forum I was forever moving threads about upscaling players to the right place. Even people that are interested enough to go on internet forums get confused between HD DVD and DVD with HD output. The Blu-ray name and disc cases also draw a low-level association with blue lasers, which people do seem to be able to relate to.
There may be some big news today.
