I wanted to price the shipping cost for a projector and contacted Forward Air, the company that seems most recommended around here. The pricing seemed reasonable enough, but I was surprised by some of their restrictions. They wouldn't accept a projector packaged the way Curt sends his (bubble wrapped to a palette), rather it needed to be in a crate or cardboard box. If you don't have an account (which requires you to ship several 100 lbs a week) you can't use a credit card or even cash, rather they have to first weigh the shipment, tell you the cost and then you have to find a place to get a money order. Finally they only offer station to station shipping.

I tried Pilot Air just to compare. Not only was the price less, it also included pickup. They took credit cards and for a reasonable price would pack it for you.

Am I missing something about Forward Air? Is there a reason not to use Pilot Air instead?

I recently shipped a projector with Forward Air. I shipped from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Portland, Oragon, US. The price was by far the cheapest I was able to get with insurance. I shipped the projector in a proper shipping crate.

Forward Air would only accept a US money order or US cash for payment at the location in Ottawa.

I didn't know about Pilot Air, maybe I should have tried them instead.

Chris.
