Hi,
I'm using a 8800 GTS on a Barco Data 800. But right now... it doesn't work (sync issues with the driver, if I'm right, and Powerstrip doesn't work either).
Darren Wadsworth seems to have no problems on 8600 and Mark A W seems to be pleased with 2600XT...
So, should I wait for the problems on 8800 to be fixed, or should I trade it for another card?
That's the question.

I'm using a pair of 8800GTXs (SLI) on my 1209 right now, its working fine with my HDFury - haven't used analog out of the VC.
HDFury is great, 4:4:4, RGB 8 bit
I have DVI-D end -> cable -> HDMI end -> HDFury -> BG1209, I'm sure the 808 would work well. Try both port 3 and port 5. I can now confirm that port 3 is a bit iffy at the higher bandwidths, probably because of the itty bitty 9 pin D connector. Possibly impedence mismatches/reflection
Good luck

If you are playing SD DVD's I wonder how you get 4:4:4 output when all disk encoding is in the 4:2:0 color space for NTSC?

I assume there's a conversion done by the application/codec/video driver? The best place to look is in one of the HKMod thread.
My HDFury works without any issues at all so there must be some type of conversion somewhere.

Good luck | I'm pretty sure it's those extra peaking components in input, that is causing "reflections". Port3 also have one stage longer rgb path (crappy switching transistor) than port5.

Aaarr, I've tried all of the latest nVidia forcewares, and none of them work...
I think I'm going to switch GC for a HD2600. I've read many threads, and it beats 8800 GTS when it comes to HD decoding. Plus, I'll be able to use Powerstrip, if Ati's drivers don't work (then again, Mark didn't seem to complain...).
So, 8800 is an excellent gamer card. But, since I don't play, since I'm only interested in HD playback, and since it doesn't work on my Barco, I have no need for such an expensive card...
As for HD Fury... I don't think I need that too... if I find a GC that works as it should.
And a sync box? I was thinking about that. Could something like a RCDVS 05 do the trick?

ATi drivers seem to work fine.
Depends if you want all the fancy colour/sharpness/etc controls in the Catalyst Control Centre (I don't). They are a bit iffy.
But the basic drivers work. Powerstrip works fine. And hardware accel in Powerdvd means my CPU is at 10% for HD-DVD.
I'm very happy with my 2600XT. I had no choice really, as I need powerstrip as I run multiple refresh rates to suit the source.
I'm using analogue out to a NEC switcher.
There is one catch, I'm having trouble with my Moome NEC switcher HDMI card and the 2600 - it just looks crap, like an LCD monitor at a non-native res.
However Kai has the exact same Moome HDMI input card and exact same video card (brand, model, everything) and his works. I'm trying another HDMI lead...
But quite frankly, I saw no improvement running DVI to HDMI using my old 6800GT, compared to analogue. If your analogue path is up to scratch, I don't see the point of HDMI, it's just a huge PITA.
Anyway, it's not for gaming really, but the 2600XT does work.

I have HD 2400 PRO and X-box 360 HD DVD drive waiting here, but haven't got time to instal those yet.
I think it would be best to start from scratch and reinstall also XP. I'm newbie with Radeon and Powerstrip, so do I need to install also Catalyst if I go with Powerstrip?

I've just installed my new 2600XT. And... at last, I can watch HD movies!
It took some time to understand how Catalyst and Powerstrip worked. I can't say I understand everything, but I finally got a nice and clear picture.
I've tried 720p and 1080i. The latest didn't look so good, so I'll stay with 720p. But I don't know if I can see a major difference with a DVD... I had an excellent DVD player and a progressive line doubler, and they were doing an amazing job. So, I guess there is a difference, but I'll have to watch the same movie on HD and on DVD to compare.
So, my 8800 will soon be on ebay...
And Ile, Catalyst is the driver, so I definitively think you should install it too.

Here's a thread I found on AVS forum :
| Quote: | TIPS ON USING POWERSTRIP FOR THE FIRST TIME:
Creating a custom resolution in PowerStrip is actually very easy, but you must have a graphics card that supports user-defined, custom resolutions, and you must know what custom resolution and timing your monitor needs.
These are the prerequisites:
A. You must be using a Matrox G-series, Parhelia, NVidia, 3dfx or ATI Radeon graphics card, with the latest driver. |
I think it could work without Powerstrip, but you won't get the best of you GC without Catalyst.

No it won't work without Catalyst drivers installed first.
