Post says it all. I just hate the idea of having to do a complete setup after lowering the pj.

I'll take the lack of replies as a no. Too funny.
Damnit. I didn't want to take it down until I installed the 145's and Joust Mods. Guess I gotta bite the bullet.

The safe way to test tubes using a ceiling mounted PJ is to.... wait....
...wait for it now....
Install the tube in a ceiling mounted PJ and turn it on.
doh!
What exactly are you asking?

I guess you could take the entire 3 tube assembly out and put the tube to be tested in and then remount this assembly into the chassis.
I think it would be much easier and safer to just take it down.
BTW. why do you have to take it down to install the 145's, I thought with the joustmods the lenses would bolt up just like a HD-8
I like your new avatar; I'm a 16mm guy myself.

Guys!
I did not hear mention of what model projector. Some of the MEC tubes are best evaluated in a running projector so you may see how much G2 is needed to light things up, as well as focus and the condition of the phosphor.

Thanks Eddie. Ha ha hardy har har.
Tom...I don't have access to a Sencore. Wish I did.
Erik...To get the Joust mods and lenses in I have to drop the pj...it's mounted via U-strut behind a boxed in beam so that only the lenses peek under. The cabinet is so close to the beam I can't get at the top bolts. I don't like it but that's where the TD put it. That will change with the 145's. Hopefully it won't put the optimal TD where the pj would have to straddle the beam.
Tim....Yuppers...a virgin 8500 that brings me pleasure every time I turn it on....wait. That didn't come out right...
I guess I was thinking more on the lines of setting up a ladder next to the pj, pulling the HV, yoke cables, and neck boards on the blue (closest one to the doors so I have something to get blown through instead of smacking into a wall) , and just temporarily setting each tube I want to test as close to the chassis as possible without having to mess with taking out all three good ones.
Anywho...thanks for all the ideas. I'm going with the masses on this and scrapping my hair brained idea. I'll take it down and flip it over to get the tubes out. I am NOT looking forward to this....damn hobbies.

Okay, if you want to remove the tubes while it's on the ceiling, then that is not a good idea with the 8500's. You can do it *carefully* with the 9500's, but not so much the 8500's if I remember right.
