Almost. The S model uses the Sony tubes. THe video chain has more bandwidth in general, the quad decoder and RGB switcher board are improved. THe power supply is slightly different, but the 's' model will work in the non S models. Not the other way around without a mod though.
Some people have said that the Sony tubes are slighty sharper, but since I've only seen maybe 2 BG808s sets in really good shape, I can't comment to the accuracy of that.
