I have two words that might look like one word for you Smile

Charge-back

When you absolutely positively have to purchase ever CRT projector on eBay.. Accept no substitute.

Visa!

You can't lose anything except your paypal account

What was the bid amount before the plug was pulled?

Can charge-backs be used with debit cards or just credit cards?

To a scammer a charge-back would be nastier than a redback bite on the bum or other sensitive part of the anatomy. Wink

Maybe your username should be charge-back spider? Razz

Hey Dave Smile

I think it was around $2200.

Chargebacks can be done on both debit and credit card - its the "Visa" or "Mastercard" brand - that also denotes a system/set of rules the banks/credit card/financial institutions have to abide by.

I've never been bitten on any sensitive parts by a red-back. Apparently funnel webs are more painful!

hehe i can see it now "cback: will you ship the $100 G90 to Australia?" "seller: what does the c stand for? color?"

You mean NOBODY was willing to bid $1 on this 300hr Ultra, with no reserve/minimum?? I gotta say I would have pulled it too!

With a $1 minimum bid and no other bidders, I wouldn't hesitate about buying from somebody with 99.6% positive feedback...

Not exactly..........I saw that go to $2275 or so with a few hours left, why give it away?

I'm guessing someone offered him $5K, and he closed the auction. Not the first time this has happened.

I'm pretty certain that chargebacks can only be used with credit cards. Using a debit card is like taking money out of your bank account to pay for something.

The top bid I think was $2750, I believe. The seller had cancelled two bids from a zero feedback bidder previous to ending his auction.

Lots of people are too damn cheap to pay for listing fees AND a reserve auction. Then when the bidding isn't where they expect it to be towards the end of the auction, they cancel the auction because of "an error in the listing" or because "the item was lost, stolen or damaged". It's a total loophole and it really pisses me off.

No, debit cards can be charged back - I've done it. The money has already been charged, so it can be reversed.

Cheers

About 19-20 hours left.

The seller wanted $15K for it. As I mentioned in the other thread, he told me ahead of time that he would pull it before it got down to 12 hours, if he wasn't seeing the bids he wanted.

The unit is still available, not sold. But even $5k won't tempt the seller. Sad

Nobody puts top bid in until 5-10 seconds left, but he didn't seem to understand that. But putting up a CRT projector for "local pickup only" will rarely fetch 1/2 of what it's worth. If you aren't willing to box it up and have it ready for a shipper to pick up, then you lose 99% of your client base.

But he didn't understand that either. I was only willing to pay what I was ($5K) because he lives about 15 minutes from a bunch of my family.

ME TOO!! I have seen about a dozen of these in the last month or so.....that is a loophole that needs closing right now.

I may consider getting a debit card for online purchases, I won't get a credit card because 1: I don't like them, 2: I don't have the income for it and 3: I won't live on credit.

A debit card means I am only spending money I have because I would have to put money into it's account before using it which is also a safeguard against un-authorised use.
