|

Hello,
Thanks for all the time you all put into this website & forum - it is very helpful. I just purchased a BarcoData 500, new to CRT projectors, and am having bad convergence problems with the blue gun. I have centered the rasters on the tubes, mechanically aimed the guns, and used the digital setup on the projector, but the blue will never line up on the whole screen (if it's converged in the middle, it's way off on the right and a bit off on the left). The problem seems to be that (on a grid pattern) the blue vertical lines become closer together the further right on the screen, so that the spacing of the blue vertical lines becomes less and less aligned with that of the red and green. I have the projector mounted on a table, and am pretty sure of proper physical setup. I also tried inverting the image (as if it were ceiling mounted) and the problem was still on the right side (I'm not sure what that would indicate). Anyway, I love the projector's image quality, but the convergence problem is getting me down - any help would be much appreciated. I spent $300 for this thing on Craig's list and would like to get it working without spending an arm and a leg!
Thanks,
Nate

I also have a bd500 (my name is also Nate)
Raster width coils may need to reset. Also you may need to slightly offset blue for convergence to line up on edges. I would center using edges rather than center itself as I find it easier. Are the magnetics still in factory position and untampered with? BTW with the 500,800,801 I don't think I've ever been able to get size and covergence 100%, at least. at least one side on one tube always does not line up slightly at the outer edge and you have to compensate between greatly off toward edge or slightly off for a larger area but not as great over a larger area as those 25 points of convergence is not enough. I would also do a memory reset and start over.

Width coils have effect also to horizontal linearity, so adjusting blue coil could help.
Use non ferrous tool for adjusting.

Thanks for the advice - if the width coils are the three yellow tubes that have adjustment scews inset about 3/4" on the horizontal convergence board, then I have tried those. The problem is that the blue coil is maxed out (CW), and taking it the other direction makes the problem worse. A small convergence problem would not upset me so much, but this is 1-2" on the right side of the screen! The magnets are in factory position (have a line of glue over the rings), and I'm running out of ideas...

Are all yokes towards tubes bell?
Yoke position in the neck affect to raster size, when leaving factory all yokes are towards bell.
How big picture is in tubes?
If it is really maxed out, moving projector little closer to screen could help.
