I think he should just tell everyone they'll be delivered before the end of the year... then there will be a round of ecstatic cheers if they arrive in October.

But if he says something like "I hope to ship them by mid-September", then on Sept 16, Phil will be ranting twice a day and threatening for the 3rd time to "never do business with moome again". Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

I believe Moome is on vacation in Japan at the moment.

What do you put a deposit down for? To reserve a product until they're ready. When are you billed for the balance? When they're ready for shipment! Why else would the seller request the remaining balance? Because they're short of vacation funds? I sure hope not.

My question is not unreasonable. Clarence the tireless Moome suck ass seems to have a problem with it though.

I've always found his products to be worth the wait. It just takes patience. I've gone 40 years wihout his latest offering, I can surely wait a few months more.

I've also found that IMHO it doesn't help when people pester him with constant "when will it ship?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
"are we there yet?"
Then Moome eventually gets frustrated and will share some details about what the current delay is, and that date inevitably gets misinterpreted as the new delivery date promise.

Phil, if you demand it by a specific date, try putting your contingency demands in the PayPal comments field when you submit the deposit. Rolling Eyes

I'm not intending to sound like a suck ass or a hard ass, but I have to chuckle when you pile on any seller that doesn't meet your ideals of perfection. And I chuckle even harder when I read about similar hypocritical hiccups in your own transactions as a seller.

Phil,

Everything you need to know about ship dates is on the EXT-HD order page: http://www.curtpalme.com/EXT-HD.shtm

It says "SHIPS LATE OCTOBER 2007"

If all goes perfectly well Moome will actually get the units back from the manufacturer late September ready to ship, but given past history, this is unlikely. So I put late October as the ship date to avoid 50 people emailing on October 1st in case it runs a bit late.

I've convinced Moome that going forward, taking money months and months in advance is not a good idea and results in the entire process slowing down. Especially when the details aren't even ironed out yet! Now pre-orders will only be taken once (a) the product details are 100% known, (b) he's placed his order with the manufacturer.

Kal

It's a great idea if he needs to pay for design costs and early production costs. Plus it helps him gauge interest, demand, and commitment.

Why sink 6 months of design work and production cost into something that you can't even get 50 people to put a $40 deposit towards?

Plus it likely keeps him motivated to deliver. I'm sure there have been several times (like after getting bashed by Phil's constant rants) that moome's wondered if this low quantity niche is worth the hassle. But since he's already collected $2000 of deposits, he's commited to deliver.

The committment of a deposit works both ways.

On the 17th of August I received an e-mail from Moome stating, "our EXT-HD will ready ship soon after 9/20." and I was billed for the remainder of the balance, which I paid on the 23rd.

Well it turns out that his promise of shipping after the 20th was nothing more than a lie.

I can't see how you could possibly accuse me of being impatient Clarence, nor how you can defend Moome.

Then at least give him until 9/20 until you call him a liar. Confused

I receive hundreds of paypal payments a year. It's not something that's hard to keep track of. It's quite easy in fact.
Sorry your having trouble sweetchuck! Maybe Moome will chime in.

I do not have faith in Moome. Too many reports of problems. Hell, I can't even get him to tell me if they're in stock or not. I really need one, but count me out.

Look at Moome's posting history. About once a week he makes one post. When he does post, he address' only one of the many questions that have been ask of him. Maybe you'll get lucky...

Phil Smith wrote:
I don't think the language barrier explains the repeated delays. There's no excuse for taking pre-payment on a product that may not be ready for several times longer than you promised

Phil Smith wrote:
You're absolutely right! The cards didn't work, and Mome only suggestion was to use component instead. I applaud Moome for his current efforts, but I have absolutely no remorse about anything I've said.

It seems that you can't be a specialty card manufacturer and communicate like a normal person. Like Casper and Moome, it appears John will be heard from infrequently, if at all.

You can't get Casper or Moome to even answer correspondence, much less apologize for not doing so.
I have a story about my previous dealings with Moome. It's not at all flattering.

Phil, how many times have you ordered from moome? Several.
How many times has he been late? Several.
How many times have you gotten frustrated and posted about it? Several.
How many times have you told yourself "never again"? Several.
How many times have you said "Damn... I'm glad this product exists"? Several.

So you want your money back since the delivery date is at least another month away? Then just ask for it.
