Yesterday, the wife and I sat down to watch one of the James Bond movies and popped it into the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player. No deliberate action, mind you, as we had a choice of it, the PS3, or the family room PC for scaling functionality.

The specific movie was From Russia With Love and boy were we surprised at how well this movie made it to DVD, and also how well it presented itself in scaled form onto the Vizio flat-panel television that we watched it on. I was really impressed at the apparent transfer for a film that was 43-44 years old (older than me!).

It was with this that the wife and I decided we needed to see which movies on regular DVD did a good job when scaled to help re-prioritize the need for getting them on HD format. So, what other movies of non-recent production seemed to turn out well in transfer and in scaled appearance?

And with non-recent production I do not mean a move made this century, or probably in the last 15-20 years. I would expect movies of recent production to have a good transfer.

All of the Bond movies had a complete restoration done on them recently. Frame by frame and very expensive. I seen before and after pics, the difference was amazing.

Only a matter of time before they are all released on Blu Ray since they were just re-worked in HD.

Lucky for me I got them cheap the first go around on DVD, since I'll be buying them all over again.
