Well, my 10 year old PC monitor is about to puke it's cookies out. Not complaining as it's served me well. I was toying with the idea of getting one of those Sony GDM-FW900's but was wondering first if there's a LCD version that would do the same thing. I like the idea of the Sony/Sun/and the HP version but damn they are heavy and cost quite a bit to ship. Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement. Thanks,

Depends. Is it a normal PC use monitor? Or do you need to run various resolutions and strange refresh rates like I do on my CRT/FW900?

If not, get a Dell 1920x1200 LCD, they are sweet, if you can stretch that far.

Big LCD's are cheap and easier to ship these days. I like Marks suggestion about the Dell monitors. They have an outlet for used/refurbished monitors and are offering free shipping on some monitors right now.

I only went with a GDM because I sometimes watch DVD's or Netflix on-demand on my computer. If all I used it for was surfing the net, then I'd have stuck with my old Dell 19" LCD.

Make sure you check the reviews on a particular model if you're going to buy a Dell LCD. They sell everything from excellent stuff to complete crap.

At this point, some of the larger LCD's are really, really good. As much as I like the FW900, unless I could get a really, really good deal (as in a couple hundred total) on one, I'd much rather have a nice LCD. Take my opinion for what it's worth, but I'm a designer and I use my computers for photography and video all day every day. I just really like to use a good LCD, now.

You don't have to worry about me buying a Dell anything. I had a very bad experiance with them and will never buy anything from them again. I like the FW900 but when you factor in the shipping price plus the cost of a used one, you can get a same size LCD, new with a warrantee. One of the things I like about the Sony is the dual analog (HD-15 and RGBHV BNC) inputs. That would be handy as this PC is in the same room as the rack system for the theater. I have dual outputs on my NEC switcher so when I'm working on the rack, I would have a monitor here to check my work.

Chip, the newer ones don't have 5BNC anymore. It's DVI and HD-15 now. Smile
