2 Questions
1) Does anyone have the service manual for the above.
2) Any ideas as to why the unit just flashes a red LED when the remote is used. Tried the User manuals method of reseting the remote to the unit.

The unit doesn't respond to the remote at alll apart from flash the LED. We tried the the method of assigning the remote to the unit that it says in the user manul but it has no effect.

Which LED is flashing? There's a bunch in the Barco...
Your main power supply might be bad. The remote might be bad. Your remote may not be compatible with the Barco, as there are two sets of IR codes for the 708, they changed them in the middle of production. Can you turn the set on via the keypad?

Well it's a friend of mine that was doing the work. It started of with the unit working and responding to the remote but now it will power up fine but will not take any notice of the remote. The remote is the original one that came with the unit.

When you press the recessed button (with a pencil or small stick) the projector should show its projector address on the screen. Enter this address on the remote and it should work. If it does not show the projector address then, well, the Barco or the remote are defective.

I'm assuming you have chanced battery. Pressed that pencil button and then 0 and nothing happen.
Then you can take digi picture (without flash) of remotes ir-led when pressing some button. Ir light should be seen in digi shot and that would tell you is remote transmitting anything... I haven't tested this with Barco remote, but it works for other remotes. I try to test this for my Barco remote today.
Ir-receiver chip in projector is weakest link in remote system. It's always running when projector is on stand by, so it have been running lot of hours since new. All my Barcos have had two receivers (back/front) and in every projector one have been failed due bad ir chip.
In 80* and 120* series it's TBA2800 chip near ir-led in convergence board (front) or in separate ir receiver (back), probably 70* series use same chip. It could also be bad ir-led, but it's not that common.

Anyone seen a service manual?

Funny story:
We decided to get the unit down and have a look to see what we could do. I asked my mate as to what area might be the problem and he pointed and in my infinite wisdom I did the what here and poked the chip. He said yes see it wont respond to the remote.....which it promptly did!
So now its working but does have a HT leak on the greens lead (any advice on curing gratefully accepted).
Also has a thin green line running horizontally accross the middle of the picture...any ideas?
Any way happy bunny again

Replace the HV lead, I have stock.
Thin line- do a 'set to midposition' in the service menu, and start the setup from scratch. That should do it.
